thanks. if i see barack i will pass on the message. i heard the washington times is good for locating political/press activity.

i think i'm going in january or february. depends how much cash i net over the holidays. i'm into music, art, etc. i'd go to a good lecture if there's on going on. the only club i know of is 9:30 and i don't even know where that is.

what do you do when you go? just curious.
EDIT: not sure how long i am staying. probably a few days to a week...

the 930 is alright, but expensive and with mainstream tendencies-- certainly more than when it was on F street (ages ago). the black cat is more to my taste and has good bands. there's a string of new places on H street (rocknroll hotel + others) but that popped up after i moved out-- i ALMOST went to see AMT last time i was there but i had to catch a flight out. all that you can find on the internet.

for art, there are galleries, but see also the east wing of the national gallery and the hirshhorn. the natl. gallery often has free movies-- either about the current exhibits or just great movies by themselves. and lectures if you want.

pick yourself up a copy of the city paper when you get there, or see it online before you go, or check out DCist online.

and get yourself a metro pass.

gotta go make dinner, but i'll check for this thread later or some other time.

if you are going to DC, make sure to visit some of the free museums!

visit the temple that is 13 blocks north of the white house. crazy marble money shit.
the museums in 'the mall' area are awesome and mostly free
georgetown is good for 'hip' shopping.
adam's morgan area is good for night life

haa haa haaa-- we still say that here for fun. it brings back lots of good memories.

that dude goes to the liquor store on the north-west corner across the street to spend his homeless change. ran into him several times there.

as i was saying rocknroll hotel opened after i left, so i don't know much about the place, but i have remote friends who go there, and they sometimes have good bands-- like that AMT show i had to skip.

eg., if you wanna wait till feb 16, you could catch polysics

there are other bars & places in the vicinity of that, it's a newly-gentrified corridor-- used to be ghetto and now the hipsters are swarming-- a mini-brooklyn?

anyway coming from manhattan DC will be more of a sleepy place, low-rise buildings and more trees. rock creek park is a pretty cool way to get around places, hiking/biking paths, a bit more "wild" than central park, go for a jog if you need some exercise.

and then there are other museums in town-- tons of it--

ah, don't forget the sackler & freer galleries in the smithsonian-- they are smaller but they ahve great collections of african & asian art and some awesome shit too-- check out the peacock room-- it's in one of them i forget which one.

i love kramerbooks in dupont circle. it's a coffee/bar/restaurant/bookstore and it's usually open late, later on weekends.

Shit... I used to smoke joints outside the club and talk to him (I offered he never accepted). He seemed like a decent guy, despite playing off of the "black guilt" of all the suburban white kids attending.
When the opening bands sucked there was always shootin' the shit with Bill. Good memories.

And in D.C. if your car was still there at the end of the show: you win!
