Honestly, I forgot it was a superhero movie. No powers, no crazy weapons. Forget that the guy is called the Joker and Batman is in a suit and you've got a great action movie. There is no camp, no humor really, just fear and violence. Totally worth it.

Didn't the comics have a schizophrenic ventriloquist with a tommy gun? That guy was fucking awesome. I at least want to see him show up.

It's extremely dark for a PG-13 movie. Quote:
I think they did.

it has humour, but it's pretty sick.

True. I was thinking along the lines of cheap laughs, not laughing at psychotic things. Those are some of the best moments.

it was pretty weird, whenever the joker made a very cruel quip, there was scattered hysterical laughter on the theater.
it was me and about ten other maniacs i guess. |

I watched it at a 4pm screening , there were maybe 20 people in the audience, mostly quite little kids + parents. They didn't laugh much.

Just saw it.
I thought it was................... great! As a personal preference, I like 1989's Batman more; the atmosphere, the darkness (you know, actual darkness), the music, the time period, the setting, etc. I like the Batcave being the Batcave. You know, little things like that. However, even though I prefer Burton's Batman, I think this a better film... if that makes sense. I just think Burton's Batman is a more rewatchable one... I can't really think of a situation wherein I'd ever want to re-watch the Dark Knight, at least not for years. Whereas I could probably rewatch Burton's Batman everyday for the next month and not be bored. Now that that's out of the way... Yes, Heath Ledger was the best joker to ever exist. Jack Nicholson was an awesome joker and had a better laugh, but his character was kind of a pussy. Heath's Joker is by far the most insane and corrupt villian I've ever seen in a movie. I mean, he fucks up EVERYTHING. I thought he was great, the tongue flicking thing annoyed me though haha. This is the first movie I've seen in a while that I really just can't stop thinking about... I thought the way everything was handled in it was pretty perfect, though the last 20 minutes or so seem a bit messy and anti-climatic (though the entire film feels like it's one giant climax, which is a bit odd). But I think that was the case with Batman Begins also, it just seemed like too much was going in at the end. I really liked the psychology of the whole thing, as others have noted. It felt very real... despite having some high-tech gadgetry and shit, it felt close to life. I mean, the Batman comic books, I used to love reading them when I was a kid because there was this constant sense of, "Batman could die." I mean, Batman's back was broken by Bane and he couldn't do anything for YEARS... and the first Robin was killed by the Joker in the comics, which made Batman have a nervous breakdown... The constant sense of.. Batman's a real person just liek everyone else, and he has feelings and can be hurt and die... I think Nolan captures that quite well in his film. I think that's why I've always found Batman to be the best and most interesting superhero -- I mean, I fucking hate Superman. What a boring character. He can spin the Earth on his finger like a basketball. You can't even kill him, only hurt him with kryptonite. What's the fucking point? But yeah, there were many moments in this movie that actually blew my mind. I kept looking over at my girlfriend and doing one of those gestures where you shake your hand in front of your head. You know, the "this is blowing my mind" gesture. I haven't done that for any film I've seen in years! I'm a dork. The best scene is definitely the one where the Joker comes out of the hospital and blows up the windows and then some of the explosives don't go off so then he keeps pressing a button until one finally blows up and then he runs off an into the bus. All in one take, of course, no cuts, which I like.. but yeah, I thought it was hilarious and dark and, just, well, perfect. Honestly, I thought it was as close to a perfect film as I've seen in a looooooong time, though again the last 20 minutes seemed a little clumsy... "setting-up-the-sequel-itis" I guess. Also, did I read correctly that Christopher Nolan used Heat as an inspiration for this movie? Because I can tell, especially in the opening scenes. Crazy. As someone who didn't think Batman Begins was that great, I can safely say that this was fucking awesome! |

Oh, and there were probably 20 people in my theatre, and everyone was laughing at all the appropriate parts.

oh i saw it last night by the way. it was good, heath ledger was no doubt outstanding as the joker. a bit sick, very humourous in a dark sort of way. "why so serious?" the way he says it is creepy as hell.

Well, I dunno. I guess it depends on where disappointment comes from. I didn't let myself get too hyped up by it so I wasn't disappointed. If you were really really really looking for it then ... I dunno.

Did you notice the nametag on the nurse dress? that "vote DENT" badge is a great added detail, too cool.
