Idon't like him but he was not the worst player during this match, and he did a really good pass to Henry (wasted...)

France hadn't been beaten by more than 3 goals, in a big tournament, since 1958 !
And the last friendly catastrophe seems to be 26 years old, 0-4 against Poland, in Paris. Local journalists predict a Romanian victory, due to a Dutch scheme planned not to meet Italy and France again. I seriously doubt it. OK, Van Basten might pick guys from his bench, but his subs aren't out of shape worthless players. Besides, the bench option was welcomed as a bright move, when Aimé Jacquet and Roger Lemerre did for France on their 3rd game group stage in 1998 and 2000 (a victory in 1998 against Denmark, a defeat in 2000 against the Oranges - so, yes, a group leader defeat might occur). Romania will play without key defender Goian, and midfielder Radoi whose clash on the pitch with Rat(?) might lead to an operation. Anything's possible, but, und das ist eine big but... The only arranged game I remember was Austria-West Germany during the 1982 world cup. Both teams had started playing accordingly to the rules as we understand them. Each threatened the other. And, 30 minutes from the end of the game, realizing the result was satisfying for both sides, they gently kicked the ball, never approaching the box, avoiding cards, injuries and exhaustion - and Algeria, second before the game, came third due to a weaker goal average and exited. |

And now I know how Joan of Arc felt... erm... how it feels to lag behind.
How to improve? If I pick a great player the leader has, his results won't fill the gap. Chances chances chances for the last group stage day, find the hidden jewel noone has, and see him score 5 goals in a row. Higher chances, everybody brings four subs from unqualified teams and use their wild card unappropriately. As probable as Netherlands scoring own goals to help Romania. |

Guess it's not too late yet to comment on the Holland-France game... I once again had a very enjoyable night at the pub! Hope it was good for you as well, Bertrand/Heckler Spray!
I wasn't very confident during the second part of the first half though. France put on a lot of pressure and clearly exposed the defensive weaknesses of the Dutch team. Luck was a more important factor in this game than it was in the Italy game. But what a very, verrrry bold move by Van Basten to put on both Robben and Van Persie while being under that kind of pressure. How many coaches would have done that? I wasn't sure if it was a good idea at the time, but 5 minutes later they were responsible for the 2-0, so I had to eat my words/thoughts. After that Robben goal people were standing up and applauding. Amazing finish and perfectly timed, 45 seconds after Henry's goal (which was awesome as well). Thuram and Coupet could've done better though... Sneijder's goal was great too, but he has scored many like those for Ajax. Bring one the quarters! Whoever's going to win it now, they will always have won "the tournament in which that Dutch team played so awesome". |
