a waste of space.

if we are the only life in the galaxy and seeing as how the odds for us coming out as we have are nearly infinetessimal (fuck the stupid vague equations they try to use to determine likelihood of life on planets, thiose are for bacterial life at best.) it could be our "purpose" to seed the entire galaxy with life, transforming it from a barren wasteland, into a teeming living thing.

life is matter that can feed, grow, and replicate itself.

I just hope nobody goes on with that idealistic new age notion that evolution shall be our redemption.

if we didn't exist we'd be less of a waste of space.

the equations aren't for bacterial life.

It's a very bold statement to suggest that our planet is the only one. That it is our purpose to invade every corner of the universe. How very human natured of you.

Not really. The material that constitutes a human body does not fall out of existence upon the death of an individual. Conservation of matter. Same amount of space.

the "equations" that are trumpeted to say that there are at least tens of thousands of advanced civilizations such as ours (if we deem ourselves advanced, heh) take into account very few factors, such as the number of earth like planets supposedly existing around the number of Sol-like stars in the galaxy, plus certain fudge factors such as "likelihood of liquid water" whioch are completely guessed at.

that shit is useless.

the Earth we have come to know,a nd the life on it, is a result not just of being where it is, around this particular sun, but of several large scale collisisons with comets/asteroids, including one that eventually became our moon, which give us tidal foces, and without the tides then multi cellular life may never have evolved, much less human intellignece. not to mention we have fere oxygen in our atmosphere, constantly replenished by plant and single celled algae life. most oxygen, being reafctive, is embedded in oxides throughout the galaxy.
the odds are nearly infinitessimal that another planet would go through exactly what Earth has gone through in the 5 Billion plus years of ti's existance, so as to develop an advanced intelligence in humans that have been around, mnodern humans, for less than 250 thousand years.
homonids and our desecendants have been around for just over a muillion years.

remember that life on earth was at single celled organism stage for upwards of 3 and a half BILLION years.

that is true, but as long as there is advanced life capable of assigning value and meaning to it, life itself is valuable.

The "shell" of data being broadcast out from Earth (The Earth shines brighter than the Sun due to our endless broadcasting of all frequencies, radio, tv, microwave, etc etc) is only about 60 light years out now, so it only has reached maybe .000001% of the stars in our galaxy.

the odds that one of those stars has intelligent life capable of capturing and decoding that information, much less understanding the Nazi Olympics, is riDONK.

The Galaxy is 100,000 light years across. at least

I think the odds are much more likely that every galaxy out there (billions and billions) may have one planet in it that everything happened just right for it to develop lasting sentient life. if that is the case, then we will never ever ever communiocate with them,
Humans are yet to be LASTING, as we have been here for just a blip of existance.
if we are to last longer than the next few thousand years we need to 4expand and move into our solar system, using the resources available to us there.

on the freaky tip, I find it much more liekly that many of the flying saucers and ufo's people see are actually craft and probes sent back in time from humans in the far future.
