No, I haven't.
Yeah, the end was a shock but perfectly fitting.

Talking of Mr Hilter, have you seen "Downfall" (aka "Der Untergang")? Incredible - really dark but totally engrossing.

On the "East German/DDR" tip, have you seen "Goodbye Lenin"? A great film, pretty bizarre, but both funny and touching. On the "70's West German violent hippies" front, try to track down a subtitled version of "Germany In Autumn (Deutschland Im Herbst)" - the best film about the Baader-Meinhof/West German terrorism stuff I've seen (including some brilliant bits by Fassbinder).

Goodbye Lenin is superb
For cold war german intruige - the book and indeed the film of "the spy who came in from the cold" is recommended And um Let's see A Small Town in Germany, also from Le Carre is a decent read.. it's a fictionalised account of a potential future for West Germany, written in the early 70's. I quite enjoyed Crabwalk by Gunther Grass

I've watched tons and it still unsettles me quite a bit. The whole movie is fantastic. 3rd best Kubrick.
