And now for the movie I'd hoped would be the saving grace in a year that seemed like an artistic hole. And it turns out, it totally is - and then some. Leave it to Pixar to tap into raw emotions and make you feel things - all the things. Jaw-dropping animation - in-movie NYC felt much like the real deal with all the dimensions, the details in the streets and some stellar light and shading. There's a certain vibrancy to this movie's visual style that really brings its world to life. Then there's the beautiful score by Jon Batiste and Trent Reznor + Atticus Ross. Plus the sound design - crisp and clear, it's like the rhythm of certain dialogues have a musical quality to them too. And the themes: This is bound to resonate with many on such a deeply personal level - a specialty of Pixar. I was spellbound. It's still a bit early, but I believe next to "Inside Out", this is probably my favorite Pixar movie (out of those I've seen). This was downright cathartic. A+ |

Watched The Hateful Eight, its set at Christmas. The Extended version on Netflix. Then I watched A Carol For Another Christmas, a tv movie written by Rod Serling which I had never seen before, and it was fantastic.

Is the extended version recommendable? I don’t think we have it on Netflix in Europe, but I just read that a very large part of the additional duration is taken up by the elaborate end credits
Anyway: And also:

Phantom Thread — great and weird
Hidden Figures — pretty good, a bit basic from a filmmaking standpoint, but good |

i had heard about this guy before but never read him. now here he is, and wow, he was great, seriously, my kind of glutton (but i'd do intermittent fasting with a job like that). he really shows what's great about his town, but i still wouldn't live in fucking l.a. with all the cars cars cars hahahaha. fuck cars! sorry but no. he died too young probably from a combination of too many restaurants and not enough walking. does make me wanna visit post-pandemic, however. |

Wonder Woman 1984 - decent fun for a lazy holiday weekend, but that’s it
Disaster Artist - Having not seen The Room in full… I still quite enjoyed this one The Favourite - Great, grotesque black comedy/tragedy |

The remake of The Witches by Bob Zemekis.
It was kinda charming and fun, appropriately dark for a Roald Dahl adaptation. Anne Hathaway looked like she was having fun, but I can tell her performance is going to really irk the people who inexplicably hate her. She chews scenery like mad. But still, fine movie. |
