I have not read Miracleman, I think it is one of the few alan moore books I have not read.

Re: watchmen, if you notice, NO ONE in watchmen has any super powers, except for Manhattan. The book is not about super heroes, but about regular people that wish to dress in costume to fight crime ( for whatever reason).

Batman is not a superhero. he has no super powers. he is just a human.

Bale played Bruce perfectly. you are correct. I just never imagined the Batman with a lisp.....

Yeah I know, Manhattan’s the only one, yep.
Anyway read Miracleman. It’s absolutely fucking essential.

Batman is not a superhero. he has no super powers. he is just a human.
yeah, this is why i liked batman when i was little: some day i could be like him! i had a mask and a cape and everything lol. i was 3.

my kindergarten friend put on a superman cape and thought he could fly and slammed his head on the floor. ouch! not an attainable role model. plus clark kent was boring,

anyway regardless of superpowers or no: i don't know how comics are these days but back in my childhood american comic heroes were all about "crime." in other words--they were cops. cops with capes. the cops of capitalism. don't question the norms!

i mean dont get me wrong, i have converted religions now, i lived under socialism and it sucked, and learned to love capitalism, with all its horrible flaws, hahahaaa, im a sellout, yeah, but... these "heroes" never questioned the social order, structural injustices, invasions, workers massacres, abuses, poverty... they only defended private property.

so when i was about... 7? el chapulín colorado was a better hero for me hahaha

totally misunderstood/miscast in the usa due to a likeness used by the simpsons. he was a hero of ineptitude. it was a mexican export, and we could all relate and have a good laugh. i mean still until today there are reruns. i think there were criminals in it (i can't remember), the point was el chapulín's fumbling ways and heartfelt intentions.

eta: oh! here is chespirito (the creator of el chapulín) on the matter:

Quote:
They are not heroes. Hero is El Chapulín Colorado, and this is serious. Heroism does not consist in being fearless, but in overcoming fear. Those heroes are not afraid, Batman, Superman, they are all powerful, they cannot be afraid. El Chapulín Colorado is terrified, is clumsy, weak, stupid, etc., and aware of these deficiencies, faces the problem, is a hero, and loses; another characteristic of heroes, and heroes lose many times, their ideas succeed later.

(emphasis mine)

you see? that's more of a third world perspective. not having delusions of omnipotence, etc. a hero of the powerless. and i agree with him: in real life, heroes not just lose, they fucking die.

THIS IS SERIOUS

Most American superheros were create and drawn by jewish men, who used their creations to fight Nazi shit with their own propaganda. Go look at how Superman and Capt. America fought Nazi's in the comics.

Early superhero comics (1930-1945) mostly focused on small crime, day to day crime. It was not until after WWII that superhero comics had to fight GIANT BAD GUYS and world-ending cataclysms.

i mean, unlike kryptonite, death is a real fucking problem in life, and impossible to avoid. society these days likes to pretend it isn't there or something. but it's just around the corner waiting.

i mean, we lie to children about santa claus and other implausible things, but it would be good if as a culture we could deal with death a little better. that's what art could be for because i don't trust religion. art, helping us cope with the inevitability of death.

and speaking of art and death now this has made me want to watch the seventh seal...

real death is fucking horrid, and death in art can help us stomach it somewhat.

seventh seal is amazing stuff. One of the best films I ever saw.

I was never a fan of the Superman comics, mainly because they stayed tied to a long-ago mindset, American exceptionalism from the 1930's.

I was a huge Green Arrow and Batman fan, two guys with no powers.

For powers I loved Marvel comics. The Hulk, Xmen were my favorites. I liked how the Hulk was the buried rage of a supergenius nerd. resonated with my super-genius ass. hahahahahah

They’ve changed Superman’s “motto” to “Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow,” which some people are mad about. But fuck them.

I love Superman, but ouch for your friend.

Life would truly be horrid if it didn't have its counterpart. Ask Christopher Lambert if you don't believe me. As for art? Pure deception.

I watched Crazy Rich Asians and thought it was just OK. Thing has a higher Rotten Tomatoes score than There Will Be Blood, I think, but it’s kinda just meh. Not as funny as it could have been, not as socially aware as it could have been, not as significant as it could have been.

I do respect the fact that there’s like two white people with speaking parts, though, and they’re done with by about 5 minutes into the movie.

I finished the batman movie.

I could have edited it to a 100 minute runtime.

The story was pointless. The Riddler was boring and dumb and just a straight Zodiac Killer copycat.

I did not like how the Batman moved like a hulking oaf. The Batman should move like daredevil, like an agile, athletic creature, not a tank.

I think they added the whole Selina catwoman thing as an afterthought. it was pointless and none of the emotions were earned.

I hated the 5 minute sequence at the endthat shows them both on their motos riding together through the countryside until THEY PART WAYS!!! WOW! MAGICAL MOVIE MAGIC!

what a waste.

Even though it was sad as FUCK, i enjoyed Joker much more.

Yeah Riddler didn’t do it for me at all.
More like Shittler.
But still I thought it was pretty good. Penguin was good.

I wish I could psychically eliminate that Joker scene from existence, fuck that thing man, what the fuck.

And yeah, it was too long. It was much longer than it needed to be by any stretch of the imagination.

Still Nolan Batman for the win
