i tried to take a picture of the most vibrant full rainbow i'd ever seen... but my camera could barely see it.

try a polarising filter, however i cant remember whether that will enhance or get rid of the rainbow completely. they get rid of reflections in glass etc and enhance cloudy skys...

and looks like you had you whitebalance set on indoor, hence the yellow hue...

thanks for the tip. i will have to remember to always carry one with me... i think your right about the white balance... i was so worried it would fade before i could take a picture i didn't even think to check.

No, those are not edited at all. It's all straight from the film. I used cross-process (shooting on diapositives and developing it as regular film), which is the reason for the pictures having such weird colours.
Smena 8m is actually one of the cheaper are widely more available old russian Lomo-type cameras. I think you can get many of them on eBay.

Eos 50D, canon el cheapo 50mm f1.8 II. Aperture at 1.8, 1/125 at iso100, spot metering, auto WB, and manual. edit: it is an aps-c sensor close to full 35mm frame but no cigar. I couldn't afford the $5000 for the 5D mkIII, so had to settle for the $1800 for the body of the 50D.

aperture: bigger the number= smaller hole to let through light
smaller the number= bigger hole to let through light

iso is the digital version of what asa is for film cameras: 100 iso less sensitive to light, 3200 iso more sensitive to light, my camera goes up to 12800 but gets very grainy that high.

shutter speeds vaary alot that particular photo i used 1/125th of a second so quite fast, however my camera varies from 1/8000th of a sec to unlimited time with the bulb setting.

metering, most camera have different ways of metering, i tend to use spot metering which meters in a small spot in the dead centre of the lens, then i meter for midtones to try and get fairly even exposure over the frame. depends what you are going for though, the circus shots i took that are a few pages back in this thread the metering said i was two stops under exposed.

if you care, that is about the extent of my camera knowledge. Tokolosh is the man when it comes to that stuff here...

Actually, iso is international standard and asa is simply american standard. There really isn't a difference anymore, though there may have been in the past I would think(before my time perhaps, and this sector of my knowledge is not currently in high use). Both originate in film though, and digital is just an adaption of such standards for light sensitivity.

oh the other island looks quite pretty too(googled). I could definately visit remote places. Eventually I'd need mainland supplies though. Imagine the stars at a place like that! No light from anywhere to ruin it. woah.
