Dude, honestly, FUCK OFF. You don't want to be part of this compilation for whatever reason - that's fair enough. You've made your opinions felt on mastering, time and again. We all know what you think now. There's other threads for you to talk audio geekery. If you want to carry on flaming in this thread, please don't. Just FUCK OFF.

I really did not anticipate fifteen pages' worth of bickering.
Seriously unexpected. This is what comes of a lighthearted, "fun" idea, I guess. |

This. Ya Ps. Don't put my track anywhere near savage clones ay. pps. on second thought do. in fact i'll submit another track so I can go before and after savages track, therefore, whoever goes before or after me will sound awesome and i'll sound shite yea !! everyone will be happy. If there are anymore superstudio songs on here i'll submit more and more tracks and thats where the name comes in. we can call this diesel and friends (/foes). There, sorted. har. royalties |

FWIW, the track I submitted is not one of my "ultra hi-fi" tracks. It sounds OK, but not to the level of more recent recordings. Plus I would love to be next to diesel. I call that good company.

Exactly. That's why I have a problem viewing a compilation as some kind of unity, even when there's a theme and a certain degree of cohesiveness involved, there's always some randomness to it (which I like) and you gotta analyse each track individually, as you would each artist. I've had tracks ruined by professionals who just didn't get what we were getting at, and if I could go back in time I would opt for no mastering at all in some cases. I do find it interesting, I like to be surprised by the results but I'm not alone in this and I work with someone who, unlike me, has all the technical knowlege and devotes himself to every detail. Personally, I'm happy listening to bedroom cassette tapes or super overly produced tracks, as the essence that interests me is beyond that.

I have so many cassette compilations that are not even dubbed properly, let alone mastered. Do I enjoy them less because of that? If the music's great I don't care one bit.

Sometimes I enjoy it more.
For fucks sake, you'd think we're making jock jams or something. This isnt 1995 Sony/Warner bros and by ppl I mean Hevusa I heard Britney needs her new record mastered tho... |

I have fallen in love with cassettes all over again, so forget about hevusa and tell me where to get cheap ones (remember when blanks were like 0.50)

I'm trying, but they are selling blank tapes here for like 10 GBP and you need a connection with the right Korean guy to get them. It's just ridiculous. But I will, promise. I definitely want your tapes tho, pm about it?

I buy a lot of them cheap from the Royal London Society for The Blind shop. Also, round these parts all the pound shops stock them and cost no more than 90p. There's a small record/dvd/vhs store outside my house called Sountek that sells both blank ones and small realeases of Bangladeshi musicians on tape. Cheap and a constant source of good sounds. And the artwork on a lot of them is often brilliant.

I think I only have two original tape releases:
a) Neptune - White Tape: it got stuck in the cassette player in a friends car. He sold it alltogether for 200€. b) Hat and Bread gave me a tape of his music but it was broken from the beginning. Strangely, it's stuck in a friends cassette player too. Regarding mastering...... haha, no. I really don't mind. |

It was complete as a demo at the time. Now there is a new version of it with real drums and vocals however. |
