Do we really know what stars are after all?
1. They are too far way to properly examine 2. They can only "speculate" about their molecular structure in reference to "Earthly" elements. Hell-fucking-lo, there way the fuck out there. It's not a stretch of the imagination to assume they consist of some shit we've got no clue about. [edit] science/scientist can be so pompous sometimes

Werent they made up of cinnamon and sugar, which is why they whirl into a sort of cinnamon-bun shape upon close direction ?

all elements everywhere are the same for the most part. there are isotopes of course. all atoms in the universe with 3 protons in the nucleus are LITHIUM. all atoms in the universe with 26 protons in the nucleus are IRON. There is a reason they are called elements. they are elemental and universal. Mass spectrometric analysis can tell you the exact composition and the exact ratio of compounds in any object, no matter how far away it is. and I mean EXACT. all stars fuse hydrogen molecules into helium and then progressively larger elemental atoms, and when they go supernova and explode, the fuse these atoms into iron and all the heavier elements that exist. someone needs to refresh their astrophysics!

Haha, guess I've been schooled! But what fascinates me most about science is what we don't know opposed to what we do. Science and scientist have a history of exuding pompous, conclusive relevance to their studies and findings with little room for imagination. I appreciate that is how their brains work, but every so many years, we evolve what we know about our environment. While Mass Spectrometry is just as impressive as it is interesting, I'd dare to say, it's not definitive. I think we are talking about regions of existence that are out of our reach, and again, we can only dissect them based on the molecular structure we've categorized to our small knowledge and existence. And just in general, to "assume" that the molecular structure of the whole universe is detectable by human classification as it relates to our planet, might be a stretch. In my opinion, although we have a molecular structure and breakdown for all existence on our planet, I still feel we know very little about it in the big picture. There will always be the "I'm gonna tell you what's up because here's what MY research tells you" committee, and then there's the "I want to know more and why" bunch. Those are the ones who pioneer new research. (and, I'm not directing this at you, but the generalization of scientists). It may be another 100 years, it may be 10,000 years down the line, but if Mass spectrometry has developed so much in about 100 years, what will it evolve to down the line. I applaud ongoing science, but just to look at history and see the last 1000 years and how much our knowledge has evolved, I'd feel silly to assume that whatever "conclusive" research has to offer at our present time, will only be looked back at as primitive 100 years later in a "world is flat" kinda way. they're be saying.... remember when they were doing 3 dimensional molecular studies (etc.).....

i think most scientists fit into the second category you mention, while very few fit the former.
more often than not it is people outside of the sciences who dogmatically shout about their very rigid worldviews. Our knowledge has not evolved. it has just grown. what has evolved are our tools for gathering information./

Couldn't agree less...... We, as humans, like most any other living organisms on this planet have evolved and continue to. As we evolve, so does our knowledge. Our brains become more capable of comprehending and achieving more and more. Tools don't evolve, they grow, they come together, they're constant materials that mended together. Evolution refers to living organisms, and this very much includes knowledge.

If there are 365 days a year and 366 days a year once in 4 years think about the sophistication it took to lock that system in place. Obviously with a stop watch a day can be examined as 24 intervals of 60mins(60*60). After a year of 365days someone knew to add an extra day every 4 years. Probably a really complicated calculus problem. Who came up with it anyway? How long will this system last before we are fully taken over by an alien race composed of foreign energy that still makes us think we are human when in fact we'll call ourselves 'human'= 'ora energy + man' while under control by a higher alien god with it's own principles? How can this be communicated to the masses as to keep everyone inclusive of what human fundamentals are?

for the most part? mostly? almost? whut? and isotopes can behave completely differently! and you can't put a star/part of it in a mass spec! they've taken them into space to look at gas/particles on other planets though. A Spectrograph is not the same as a Mass Spectrometer! Mass spectrometry (MS) is an analytical technique for the determination of the elemental composition of a sample or molecule. It is also used for elucidating the chemical structures of molecules, such as peptides and other chemical compounds. The MS principle consists of ionizing chemical compounds to generate charged molecules or molecule fragments and measurement of their mass-to-charge ratios. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_spectrometer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectroscopy someimes you are so rude when explaining things.

DEAD WRONG human brains have not changed at all in hundreds of thousands of years. all that has changed is our storehouse of collected knowledge and information, and the tools by which we gather such information. You don;t know jack shit about natural selection (what you choose to call evolution) if you think natural selection is how knowledge is developed.

You are arguing about calendars. calendars are man made objects, and there are shittons of variations. There are three ofr four different kinds of years. one is measured by the rotation of the earth around the sun. one is measured by the time between equinoxes, etc.

of course isotopes can behave differently. I said so. so what? an isotope of lead is stil lead. an isotope of hydrogen is still hydrogen.
