possible hammer blows tuning: CGCGCC OR CGCGGC?
beautiful song...really just cycles between open strings and 2nd/5th/3rd frets on the low strings. |

...except dude in that article got all the string guages in REVERSE ORDER--we always talk about tunings from low string to hi string, which he got right, but then he gave the gauges in reverse. d'oh! so hammer blows tuning should be written as CGCCCG .056/.045/.035/.028/.014/.018 (low string is very low C, middle two are same note and second string an octave above that, and note the hi string G is LOWER than the second string (a strategy I often like...). rokk on--- --L |

Oh, my... A lecture of "Bloomington, Indiana" was part of Lee Ranaldo's set at a free show which took place on Monday at Landlocked Music, in Indiana:

Maybe I missed it in another thread, but nobody's really discussed the demos 12" or alt mix 7"? It's a rare treat that an artist offers demos for 8/10th of an album (on vinyl!) so I think the demos 12" is a pretty exciting release! It's just Lee, Steve, and Irwin and most of the tracks are pretty similar to the final versions (aside from "Stranded"), with some alternate lyrics here and there, but still interesting to hear. Very cool to see they're on the Lazy 8 imprint, too!
I wonder if we'll see any (digital-only?) soundboard releases from this tour. Another vinyl exclusive is probably too much to hope for.

I did, I think, or I meant to. Love the 12" demos! More than the actual album, this is how I would wish a Lee solo album to sound like. Not that I don't like the proper album, but I have no clue who's playing what guitar. And all I want to hear is Lee (not really being familiar with those other two).

Yes. Almost every paragraph has a knee-slapper. I've been doubting my writing abilities lately, but this did wonders for my confidence. |

But anyway I like that comparison, because I think both bands have made very inspiring career. Maybe Sy has never been as influental as the Beatles for the popular music and I think even Sy would have sounded quite different without the Beatles, but to me personally Sy is even more important than the Beatles. |

Lee is a big ol' Beatles freak...he probably thinks about them the same way I think about SY (or close to it). And the Beatles are my second-favorite band, so anytime people compare them, I'm with it...but you're right. For example, "Hey Joni" is not a "Lee song" in the same way "Something" is a "George song." People love "Karenology"...that wasn't even his track originally.
