Out The Door (from new Blank Dogs) is such a cool track. It reminds me of Kirby's Adventure for the NES, same with Northern Islands. Some of the vocals sound like lame garbage though.

Blank dogs have lame gabarage vocals, that's why I love the vocals. I really like the new album even it's at a time a world apart of their earlier work.

The new Daughters is fucking wild! Very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very good stuff here. Damn, they've been out of the game for a while, Hell Songs came out in '06! I saw 'em live once with Cattle Decapitation, and the Locust (I actually met Justin Pearson before the show! Very nice guy). They were absolutely mindblowing. Thanks for bringing it up lou, I had no idea they dropped a new album, and I've been looking for something new with some balls to it.

Hell Songs is great, and I didn't like the one before it at all. I like how the guy was kinda sounding like David Yow on it.. worked great!

I really like the new Xasthur a lot. It's a tragedy that it's his last.

Yeah, Living With Yourself is good, I don't think it's my favorite McGuire record though. But it's a cool album to discover his stuff if you don't wanna listen to his early tapes (and there's a shitload of them). I love the last song on the album, with that part where it explodes and you just go all WTF, great way to finish the album... Also, I shook his hand the other day and he seems like the nicest guy ever... But now I regret that I didn't ask him about a new Skyramps album...

Yeah he's definitely the best member of Emeralds. He's released a ton of albums, but they've all been pretty good. I was surprised by this new one since I figured I'd be like "oh, just another McGuire album" but it actually had a lot of neat stuff going on in it. The fact that I've heard like 30 albums by this guy and he still continues to do some surprising, interesting things is a testament to his talent.

Just got MARIBOR - ATROCITY EXHIBITION. Kinda sounds like the Dead C collaborating with Lustmord. Lots of equalizer sweeps, trebly high pitched guitars cutting through glass.
Gotta give props, again, to that Daughters self-titled album, released like 2 days after they broke up... It's really fucking good. That blast beat at 1:22 in track 4? Brilliant! Really, when they started out, they were just a crappy screamo-grindo band, one of those bands that just wanted to be another Justin Pearson project. But then something happened: they got good. They wrote longer songs, stopped screaming and playing faster than they could play. They actually came up with creative riffs, instead of just playing fret 24 of the high string for an entire song. This is their most epic album, the songs are well-written, dynamic.. there are layers and layers of neat guitars and effects. Granted, it kinda just sounds like another Fatal Flying Guilloteens/Jesus Lizard (without the prominent bass playing of those bands), but the world needs more bands like that. Great album. Everyone get Daughters self-titled. I'd say check it out just to hear that wacky slide guitar in Our Queens. It sounds like Beefheart's Magic Band playing grindcore! Also, gotta mention that new Squarepusher again. Really fucking good, another complete left turn, but it's a consistently awesome album. Melodically pleasing, structurally brilliant, with wicked bass playing and perfect production. Some of the music sounds like it could've been in the game Kid Chameleon. Epic album. Finally, gotta give special mention to post-pop (aka Tokyo Virginity Pop) band アーバンギャルド (URBANGARDE) and their new album 少女の証明 .. no idea how to pronounce it but it rules. |

That Laetitia Sadier album is getting a lot of play.
I'm also awaiting Peter Kolovos's new record... I think his tone is AMAZING, but I'm still waiting for him to actually make some kind of song structures that warrant repeated listens. |

And daughters's first one is piece of garbage, semi-ironic grindcore going nowhere. Hell Songs is the shit, I mean it's like David Jow fronting a mathrock band which only can play hardcore breaks. And the last one, oh dear mother of Christ it's so good. It's loud, it's insane but mostly everything just falls together perfect. I mean even the offkey keyboard on that last song just feels right. Nearly perfect record in every sense. |

Right now I'm mad for Bee Mask's Canzoni dal Laboratorio del Silenzio Cosmico (Gift Tapes) and Deep Magic's Soul Vibration (DNT).
Oh, and Keith Fullerton Whitman's Generators (Root Strata). |

absolutely, it sounds great, but not glossy. love the guitar layers (anyone else reminded of goo with some of the guitar tones, especially on the first song?), and the acoustic songs just sound amazing. honest, in-your-face, haunting... easily his best work in 20 years.
