I broke my rule and finally watched the video for "FADE" and even though it was stupid and gross at times, it was an undeniably powerful video for what is probably the year's most powerful song.

Its dumbness is deliberate, as it pulls very clearly from Flashdance, which is of cours famously and objectively stupid and absurd. There's a moment of porno shot that I truly don't get. But it ends on a seriously unsettling note that works despite being kinda dumb at first sight. It's disturbing.

The video's equation is something like: Flashdance + "Single Ladies" / "Thriller."

To be honest, even though Mos was my favorite solo rapper for a while, I don't even really remember those albums. I remember pitchfork didn't like them. But I think at least the New Danger has seen a bit of a resurgence in the past few years.

I know Black on Both Sides was definitive thoigh. And I know Mos is talented, with a great ear. He's not the kind of artist I'd expect to be consistent. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. This is likely going to be his last album, so hopefully no suckassness.

Don't even start. If you have ever had any interest in hip-hop at all, I know you know Black Star is genius, and Black on Both Sides is great.

As D.I. Hardy would say on Broadchurch, "What is the point of you, Greezy?"

Rolling Stone is full of shit. They gave Lemonade album of the year.. now Lemonade is a quality pop album, but it's far from that and pales in comparsion to Solange's album.

They also ranked The Rolling Stones album which isn't even out yet like 6th or 7th in their list, and gave it a write up that reads like it was pre-written.

Green Day were also in the top 20. Yet Common and Anderson .Paak didn't even make it to the list..

I can see how Lemonade would be an "Album of the Year" choice, especially for a mag like Rolling Stone. It was a pretty big deal, and it's quite good. Moreover, it is probably more associated with Black Lives Matter than any other album, so it has a cultural relevance to it that can't be argued with. I get it. I don't agree. It's not the best album of the year. But I get it.

The 1975's "I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It" is Album of the Year according to NME (Life of Pablo comes second). I've never heard this album. Is it really that good or are NME just trapped inside their britpop/garage rock bubble?

Huh? No... I was asking. I don't have the issue with the list in it yet (yeah, I get Rolling Stone, but rarely read it... usually for the politics when I do.)

AAAAAnyway... The Life of Pablo was TOTALLY on the list and in the top 10. No. 8
to be specific. I wouldn't expect RS to have the objectivity or the ear to rank it at the top, but surely ... SURELY it belongs in the top 5. It was their best reviewed album of the year until Lemonade.

It is the biggest album of the year that is associated with the Black Lives Matter movement, though it just rides TPAB's coattails.

Solange's album is humble but better in every way.

Anyhoo, listen... those idiots put Metallica, the Monkees (the fucking MONKEES), the 1975 and motherfucking Sting on that list, in addition to the aforementioned Green Day. I wouldn't get too upset about it.

The fact that they also included Death Grips (whose album I don't even think I've heard) and Parquet Courts and Young Thug means they're obviously pulling a few indie and underground albums out of their ass — as well as country and Elton John — to look well rounded. In this day and age, if your personal list contains albums not included on the "big ones" it's a sign that you are actually paying attention and listening to stuff. Rolling Stone made an equal opportunity list meant for the average joe.

I mean, fuck.. they didn't even put We Got it From Here.. in the top 25 (!?!!??!) They COMPLETELY missed several brilliant records so they could have albums that aren't even out yet and a "healthy representation" of music on their list. They're playing it safe.

Personally I don't think Malibu is as good as Yes, Lawd!, but I definitely think it belongs on any list that's trying to accurately represent who made waves in 2016. Anderson .Paak worked his Fucking ass off for two solid years and he deserves the recognition. I expect at least one of the big mags (SPIN or maybe the Guardian's entertainment staff) will include at least one of his albums.
But fair waning, Pitchfork probably will not. They tend to only include 8.0+ albums on their lists, which are little more than clockbait at this point. For example, their "best video of the year" was ALL OF THE LEMONADE VIDEOS. Jesus, what's the point?

JEFFERY being 10th was hilarious to me. I really enjoyed that album. But you know.. it's Young Thug. Every project he puts out, even the good ones, tends to get stale real quick.

It's barely a top 10 HIP HOP album of 2016.

JEFFERY was a pleasant surprise but it's not on the same level as the albums by Tribe, Kanye, Common, Chance, Danny Brown, Isaiah, Schoolboy, Kendrick..
