sure, bernie’s policies if implemented would benefit the working and low middle classes the most but the working and low middle classes in this country don’t have “proletarian consciousness”. they’re all temporarily embarrassed millionaires waiting for their shot at opportunity, even if such opportunity is a mirage. if not them, their children. most low income americans don’t really want what they perceive as “government handouts” even though when they’re available they will use them. but often they will resent those who use them. there's also a large percentage of the public who prefers local solutions over federal ones. this is a republic formed out of 50 states plus some territories not a country of 4 million people. one size does not fit all unfortunately. seems like a logical problem, but it’s not a matter of logic. it’s culture, it’s got its roots in history, and i don’t think it’s going away any time soon. |

Charlie Kirk
Wow: Republican turnout for Donald Trump in Texas last night—1,879,758 Democrat turnout for all 4 top candidates combined—1,663,590 An uncontested race inspired a larger turnout than Democrats’ second biggest Super Tuesday prize And they say they can flip Texas? Quote:

That's very much what I've found. Plus the race factor, which really has no equivalent in the UK. Atlanta seems pretty straight forwardly pro-Biden. Miami is a riddle even by American standards, but fair to say Sanders' Castro connection, however spurious, really doesn't go down well https://www.miamiherald.com/news/loc...240425431.html https://www.miamiherald.com/news/pol...240584001.html |

the new cuban american generation is not so castro-obsessed, but still, the new generation doesn't vote as reliably as the old one, and winning florida is essential to win the electoral college in november. |

I wasn't being 100% serious about the Castro/Cuban thing but yeah, the older generation still seems entrenched and continues to carry a lot of political weight. And if anything I'd say the up-coming generation, while less Castro-obsessed is hyper-aspirational, so have their own reason for rejecting anything that even vaguely smacks of socialism. |

miami is a huge business town. the economic hub of latin america, in fact. i know of a dentist there who's the child of a south american cleaning lady. the cleaning lady makes good bank and drives a new car these days. while that's not everyone's story, it's the kind of story that feeds the "american dream." yes, there's an american nightmare too, but the dream itself is key to the culture, has been for generations. just the other day i was watching a short video of an indian guy who has a vegan food cart in new york. check it out. nice fucking guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxt4YCIsn2I eta: sorry--sri lankan! eta- his daughter graduated from the university where he sells his food. while i'm sure she got scholarships etc the narrative is that of the striving little guy doing better for the next generation. maybe it's a fantasy, but it's a powerful one regardless. |

Quite. Returning to the point. My impression is that while Sanders policies may be about improving the lives of the poor, they seem more popular with those that're pretty comfortably off, so I imagine the voter suppression in poor areas that Derek talks about is more likely to hurt Biden than Bernie, especially if they have a high percentage of minorities.

yes in many (most?) southern states there is a history of voter suppression against minorities and they keep at it any way they can. e.g. see: stacy abrams in ga.
back to the 11 nations business: notice also how both progressive candidates are from yankeedom and do best there (even if warren tanked overall, those were her best regions, and the "left coast" allies). anyway found this re: why warren lost in mass. https://www.vox.com/2020/3/3/2116160...-massachusetts basically: uneducated men hate her (but also, some of her voters love her and want her to stay put). rough fate. eta: this is her campaign's latest: https://medium.com/@teamwarren/next-steps-bfa8482e2fbc |

Whatever the root cause I took a real instant dislike to her from the first moment I saw her in action. Just one of those people where it doesn't matter what they say, they just seem to inspire an automatic negative reaction in me.
Either way, I'm enjoying the contest as a kind of self contained battle. I think Trump will comfortably beat whoever the Dems finally pick. |

her supporters say "misogyny" but i think that's not it. i love her on paper. and i think some of her policies will be great when implemented. anyway as long as the repukes lose the senate i'd be willing to live with your prediction (barely. barely.) |

Kill me now. I promised myself never to do this again, but perhaps I will allow myself one post per month. Bytor fails epically in his own post. He disregards the percentage reporting which is evident in each of those graphics. Bytor, I detest you. How can you be so "good" in music threads, but such a fucking lunatic in these political threads? My brain will never be wired to understand such things. Here's something that is not fake news: https://thehill.com/homenews/campaig...-super-tuesday It pains me that Biden will be The Chosen One. He is a decent, honest man, but he is clearly well past his best-before date. Sanders, who is even older, has fire, energy, ideas, coherent sentences, and outrage. Both, however, would be a million times better than the current, incompetent, divisive, vindictive, toxic, idiotic asshole who currently occupies the job.

Happy New Year Skuj, it’s good to know you’re alive and well! Ummm......what in the hell are you talking about? The percentage reported was clearly on each graph —YES— extremely early in the counting, but the numbers were true and correct and the point of sharing was President Trump had received more votes than the Top Three Democrats COMBINED!!! Guess what, the same was 100% TRUE with over 99% of the polling locations counted: You can read the Texas Tribune story for yourself. Also, I posted about this a page or two later regarding the voting results in Texas. Quote:
If you can show where Charlie Kirk or The Texas Tribune got the numbers wrong, I’ll gladly share that information here at SYG. If not, guess you’d better stick your head back in the sand......or pop more popcorn! |

Trimpie very fearful of Biden.
“The Democrat establishment came together and crushed Bernie Sanders AGAIN!” He also said Warren is “selfish” for staying in the race because “it hurts Bernie badly” Who do you think he wants to run against? |
