Oh and no Adam, I haven't tried out MDK2 yet. I've always loved Jet Force Gemini though. I remember when my cousin first got it for his birthday, back in the day, and we were just shitting our pants over the graphics in the opening cut scene. Haha, it's so funny to think about that type of shit now.
Damn, JFG is a good game... I'd trade my cartridge in a heartbeat for a copy of Mischief Makers though. |

FFTA is the best game to play on emulators, if only cuz you can speed the game up. Make it 3x faster and it's still not as fast as DISGAEA or any other NiS games aside from the crappy LA PUCELLE. That's really my only problem with FFT/FFTA/many turn-based strat games in general -- they're addictive as hell, and besides puzzles and shmups they're my favorite games ever, but so many of em are too damn slow.

hey dreamcast-ers, get this
http://www.dcisozone.com/downloads/1...tion-2010.html it doesn't look like much but there's hours -- weeks/months -- of fun here. Honestly, it's worth it for abstract techno shooter Noiz2sa... How neat is that? I just got this badass new Dreamcast game, SQRXZ2.. a sequel without a first game, I guess. It's a LOT like I WANNA BE THE GUY/SUPER MEAT BOY.. |

More screens;
Think that's cool? I just got another new Dreamcast game (keep in mind we're 3 months into the year and at least 5 new Dreamcast games are out -- with STURMWIND on the way, which looks to be the best DC game EVER...)... tHIS GAME IS anoher insane platformer called GIANAS RETURN.. Mmmmm. So yeah go download those too. I got about 50 DC games downloaded, waiting to be burnt, or games in my "Favorites" wiaitng to be d/l'd. After a few years with only a few games (like the great GREAT Lumines clone IRIDES; MASTER OF THE BLOCKS, LAST HOPE, KAROUS, RUSH RALLEY RACING, FEET OF FURY, etc...), the DC has more games released this year than the last few combined. The team who is doing Sturmwind announced 10 (!) more brand new DC games, btw. Yes. |

btw speaking of shmups (frequently making me aware that they're one of the few things in life that have never let me down -- they always make me happy...)....
HOLY FUCK! POST OF THE YEAR! http://www.snesorama.us/board/showthread.php?t=59986 DREAMCAST: SHOOTERS FOREVER SUPER MEGA DREAM PACK ... 305 SHOOTERS ON ONE MOTHERFUCKING CDI! (and yeah, some of these are first person shooters or top down shooters or whatever but a big portion of it are shmups, spread out on many diferent emus on many different systems; see, this REALLY gets me excited and makes me realize something awesome AND scary... that the dreamcast, and people's devotion to it, hasn't even SCRATCHED THE SURFACE YET. Yeah, Sturmwind's graphics confirmed it -- really, it looks better than just about any game comign out this year, proving "graphics" are usually more about "Artistry" at this point than processing power .. and this is a 12 year old system! Sega built this thing to motherfuckin last... No, I mean, they're hard at work on a great Sega CD emulator, the NEO GEO/NEO GEO CD emu is now perfect... I mean, who knows.. you know? I think we'll be seeing awesome original DC games/homebrew shit .. forever. anyway, LIST OF SHOOTERS ON THE PACK: Arcade: 01.4D Warriors 02.Blaster 03.Choplifter 04.Defender 05.Donkey Kong 3 06.Galaga 07.Galaxian 08.Gorf 09.Gyruss 10.Vanguard 11.Zaxxon 12.1942 13.1943 14.1943 - Kai 15.Aero Fighters 16.Asteroids 17.Battle Zone 18.Black Widow 19.Blasteroids 20.Cabal 21.Centipede 22.Disk of Tron 23.Exed Exes 24.Gemini Wing 25.Gradius 26.Gravitar 27.Hellfire 28.Legendary Wings 29.Lifeforce 30.Prehistoric Isle in 1930 31.Salamander 32.Section Z 33.Sidearms 34.Silkworm 35.Slap Fight 36.Star Wars 37.Tempest 38.Terra Cresta 39.Tiger Heli 40.Truxton 41.Twin Cobra 42.Twinbee 43.Vulgus 44.Zero Wing 45.1941 46.Area 88/U.N. holy fuck.
Guys, I BEAT IKARUGA... on normal. Holy fucking shit. That last level was hell. The last boss wasn't too hard -- the one where you have bullets -- but then you DON'T HAVE BULLETS anymore, you aren't "allowed" to shoot. and he just keeps firing shit at you. You'd think this would be easier, since you only have to dodge, but this is the fucking most insane shit ever, where you swim in bullets. Anyway, took me forever. I had quite a bit of continues, but not unlimited ones (afer you play.. uh.. 20?.. hours, you get unlimited continues). So, yeah, onto the next "Shmup I've never beaten for the Dreamcast". I've beaten Karous (which is very easy), Castle Shikigami 2 (I actually beat it on the horrible PS2 port; the DC version is a MUCH better port though it's still one of the lesser shmups around -- on the other hand, the 3rd game is incredible, if you have a Wii and like $5 to get a used copy), Ikaruga, Fast Striker, DUX (which was damn near impossible -- you wanna talk about a fucking challenge?), Gunbird, Drill, Under Defeat, Trizeal, Psyvarius 2, Trigger Heart Excelica... The ones I haven't beaten are chaos Field (which seems to be way harder than the Cube version), Border Down (which is HARD), Last Hope (I'm playin the Neo Geo version instead of the Cube "Pink Bullets" version, and it's probably the hardest shmup ever), Under Defeat (this one seems easy but I find the game sorta boring).. uh... yeah. I also beat BLAZING STAR. This is in my top 5 favorite shmups now (I can make a top 10 shmups list sometime if anyone's interested. I'm actually thinking of making a shmup-only thread sometime -- that way, we can talk about shmups and post soundtracks, downloads, etc.). I HIGHLY reccomend this game... go to dcisozone.com and type in neo4all. I will bring up "Neo4all + 52 roms". Blazing Star is in this pack. It's the fastest, most colorful, most insane shooter ever for the NeoGeo -- and it came out in 1992! It RULES. The last boss will blow you away. It's a baby! It's a giant baby! Haha. It's a fetus actually, but it turns into a big baby. It's so fun. Anyway, my best friend just sold me his Japanese modded ps2, so I can FINALLY play PS2 burns on top of the PS1 games I've been burning for a year. So, first game I got to burn was Mushihime Sama! It's BULLET FUCKING HELL: Also.. Andro Dunos (this game rules. You know how most shooters scrolling you up, or to the right? THis one scrolls you up, down, left, and right... it's nuts. Fun shit). Ironclad (another great neo geo game) ..........I think I'm going to play Chaos Field until I beat it now. Yeah. I've been able to get to level 3 pretty easily but that's about it. ...yeah. Fuck it, guys. I'm going to open a beer and go for it. |

Really? I hated it... I got about 5 hours into it and turned it off. I mean, I was the biggest Square nut ever (and TRIGGER is one of my favorite games ever too), I have literally ever PS1 Square game -- Einhander, Xenogears, Bushido Blade 1-2, FFVII and IX, etc are all excellent. But Chrono Cross was way too easy, the "42 characters" was annoying... it just bored me. LEGEND OF MANA was also pretty awful. I know LOTS of people dig Cross, though... THREADS OF FATE is pretty underrated, as far as all those games go.
Have you played XENOEARS, Ghost? I put 85 hours into it. I really love killing God at the end! Haha. Amazing fucking game. Besides D2, Ico, and Super Metroid.. it's my favorite game ever. Even though, in retrospect, it's almost identical, plot wise, to NEON GENESIS EVANGELION. BTW, has there ever been an RPG made where party members turn on you, besides TALES OF SYMPHONIA (2 members turn on you, actually!), or TRIGGER? ... Also, you know how in FFVII, Aeris dies? (also, you think a character dies in VI, but you can get them back) Has that ever happened in any other game? I'm really interested in the idea of being in a party with someone, like, 20 hours, and then the last 20 hours, you have to kill them.. or they're dead or something. THe amazing thing about Aeris being in FFVII... is disc 1 is the longest disc.. and she is EASILY the best character, if you get all her limit breaks. Most people don't. But.. it heals every single party member COMPLETELY and it removes all status defects.. and it resurrects any dead party members! I mean, jesus. It's like 10 items/turns in one turn! Now that I got a PS1 gameshark, I'm thinking of playin as her on disc 2 and shit. THoug there is a glitch to get her without a Shark, too, but I heard it can crash your game, whereas the Shark code apparently won't. THere's also a Shark code where you can play as the same party members in battle. So you can have 3 Clouds or whatever. Hahaha. ...one more thing: I'm making my 2nd video game.. a shmup. |

and I haven't played xenogears.....One reason was because it's hard to find a copy. and my ps1 was never modded.
I'm waiting for more emu's for the ps3. and....to answer a main character dying..... well in Phantasy Star IV. there is a really unexpected death of a pretty important chracter. |
