The serious experimental response to that : He's upped the stakes, hasn't he? The SY fan response : My completely asexual girlfriend thinks I'm cool. Myself: I'm listening to Skullflower's ''Orange Canyon Mind''. The cover of this record is beautifully misleading, if you've never listened to them before. Is it a psychedelic black metal record? What's with the shading on the scenery? I like it how the title track sounds exactly like if John Carpenter made a psychedelic soundtrack for his more urban, nightmarish visions. It gets even worse from there on, and for the best. |

Their last record? But hella fantastic. You really notice how they evolved to a little more complicated songwriting. Key song for me is Godsend. Nine and a half minutes of the same riff and same lyrics hypnotize me. But seriously I love this album. Teenage Caveman and Pinebox Derby are also amazing songs. My favorite album period. STEVE SHELLEY's debut album with SY. ANd HE KICKS so much ASSSS. ASDKHASJLKFBGALKHDFBKLH In The Kingdom #19 is playing righ tnow. and yehs. This album is beyond perfect. The best album opener, Tom Violence, a beautiful closer, EXPRESSWY....and the feedback at the end is an aura which emits from the greatness that is Sonic Youth. |

also listened to this earlier. Blonde Redhead is my 2nd favorite band of all time behind sonicyouth. This album is in a 3 way tie with In an Expression of... and Misery is a Butterfly for my favorite blonderedhead album. Kazu's voice and how she "evolved" her singing style is beautiful. I mean earlier in her career she had so much range! and this album is proof!. I still get rocks off, I am there while you choke on me, Down Under, and Young Neil. her voice is perfect! and you are racist if you don't lke this album. |

Guided By Voices - Corpse Like Sleep of Stupidity
Not sure the tag ''aborted album'' associated to this record by so many blogs when describing it is fitting, since the styles touched by a good number of the (mostly unfinished) songs seem to indicate that many of them weren't originally meant to be sequenced so close together. Plenty of ideas crammed under the same roof though. And some daft ones too. |
