Repetition is great when you get the sense that the band are doing it because they're technically challenged. When it's done as 'art' I'm less enthusiastic.
Phillip Glass bores me. Electric Wizard don't. |

Lightning bolt's "st. jaques" is pretty lovely, but not maddeningly repetitive. Boredoms Super Roots 3 is also some kick ass repetition. i got my mind set on you. got my mind set on you. got my mind set on you. got my mind set on you. got my mind set on you.

"sister ray" is a great song, but i think the most about her is the noise section, cause in those times was a "little" weird to pop/rock culture of the 60's; and was a great "lesson" for the future "freak musicians" (sorry Mr Reed!) ...and i don't agree with the expression "repetitive music", it's better "experimental music", no?!...for me repetitive music is techno or transe (i hate those sounds)...try to hear Steve Reich "music for 18 musicians"...it´s not repetitive!! it's experimental... |

Reptition at its finest. Repitition can be good if coupled with brevity, a concept too many groups dont seem to understand (namely rappers)

every single boring ass stupid melodramatic slow jam ballad ever created has the most repetition in it, just endless repeats of high hat taps and soft bass drum kicks and stupid fucking endless long drawn out notes on a violin or a synth keyboard.
fucking hate the slow jams.

Glenn Branca's Structure is my Dad's least favorite song I've played for him. Says it just sounds like an extended build up to nothing.

I've tried to listen to one of Glenn Branca's symphonies once : one chord played over and over again , I quit after 3 min.

Autechre is repetition at it's most enjoyable. Just music to not focus on, but listen to in a detached way.
