It can be either interesting or dull. All depends on the case you get.

I got called as an alternate once when I was 19. I was supposed to call a number to see if I was supposed to come in. I didn't call, and apparently they had picked me. I had to show up and fill out some forms about a month later so as not to go to jail. And then a few years after that I got called again. I was at the courthouse for three days waiting to see if I'd get picked. They picked me on the last hour of the last fucking day. They made me the head juror for some goddamn reason. Two days into serving on some bullshit civil case (a woman was suing because she tripped on the sidewalk), on my way home (like, four blocks away from where I lived) I got hit in the head with a pipe as part of some gang initiation I stumbled into. As much as that sucked I used it as an excuse to not go in to jury duty the next day and was off the hook. The bastards never even paid me and I missed a week of work because of it.
Also I would love a thread where we could weigh in on our turds.

That's a nice story. Are you writing that for the stage or a screenplay?

I can't believe you're on this forum complaining about wasting time on disagreeable things. Irony, anyone?

those bastards.. I feel so nervous in a court house, I feel all the negative duppie vibes of the shitstem.. all the sterile hallways, the badges and guns, the judges and lawyers and vampires, it makes me so damned uncomfortable I could throw up..
and I have to go back tomorrow and sit through more of this shit.. and I feel in my heart that God is dragging me onto a murder trial. I can't claim God as my reason to get out if God is sending me in the first place.. so I might be stuck for three weeks in a process that makes me uncomfortable to the very core of my being.. most people just feel inconvenienced, I feel like I am standing in the lion's den, the snake pit, the fiery furnace, King pharaoh's judgment seat.. ' those who fight against justice, fight against nyabinghi..' fyah burn hotta fyah red red red..

good sir, if you pride yrself on truth-seeing, perhaps you are denying one of yr brethren freedom by NOT showing up.
also, jury duty is not judge duty, but I think yr confusing passing judgment on someone for who they are versus passing judgment on someone for what they did. I mean, it was good enough for Solomon.... |

so it was evening at the Improv when I finally got interviewed by the Judge for the jury this morning:
1) Have you been the victim of a crime? Yes, I was robbed by a friend. He said, why did you not call the police? I said I do not trust the police, I figured it was on God. He said God left you hangin, I said not necessarily. Then i explained that I did not want to be the one to bring the hammer down on my former friend, regardless, I don't roll like that. I don't call the cops for shit. Also had to mention the five people I know who have been shot, two killed, one by the police. He said any issues with being fair in this case? I said, I hold the police entirely acountable for the murder of my friend, and subsequently have trust issues with the police. He said, the all the police? I said yes, the entire institution. As a Rastaman I do not trust the law or its authority, actually it makes me quite nervous. 3) Have you been arrested? Yes, three occassions. He said did the police treat you fairly? I said no, on one occassion they invaided my home illegally, and arrested me. He said did you fight the case? I explained that the DA's deal was more affordable than the lawyer, he said why not the PD? I said the PD does not help you very well with such petty cases.. 4) any guns? No they make me uncomfortable. He then asked me, why I did not trust the courts or the police when my own friend robbed me with a gun? I explained WELL THE COPS CARRY GUNS TOO, he said they have a license, I SAID I DISAGREE WITH THAT LICENSE. GUNS MAKE ME NERVOUS. He brought up the robbery, I explained, 'well, honestly I feel the cops robbed me as well, they just like the my friend, kicked in my door and arrested me illegally and robbed me through the courts of my $$$." I got a lot of laughs, it was truly funny to me. I love fucking with the court, especially if it is all based upon the truth. Its like, Jesus, who is on trial here? Me or the defendent?
