they're in my top 20 bands probably, but confusion is sex has been in my top 10 albums for at least 12 years now. I will never forget listening to it in 105 degree weather in a sweaty ass attic on a shitty stereo with my friend norton (gehena lion guy). One of the best days of my life. I'm going to go home tonight (I'm at my girlfriend's school right now), call in to work, smoke a joint, and listen to confusion is sex all night. No, I'm not calling in just to smoke/listen, I am not feeling well -- sick to my stomach -- but fuck it. |

I love Sonic Youth's 80s stuff more than any other music ever recorded, and their 90s stuff is generally fantastic too although sometimes patchy, but to me since 2000 it's been a decline (NYCGY, and Murray St are excellent records though), having said that The Eternal was significantly better than Rather Ripped.

I'm going to go join the Limp Bizkit board just so I can say how they sold out after the first three records!

Confusion is one of my favorite SY albums. I feel close connections to EVOL (best album ever), Confusion, Dirty, Murray Street, The Destroyed Room....those are probably my Top 5.

so you don't like 1 of the 4 albums recorded in that span, and that means there's a decline?

he meant there's a decline with respect to the 80's-90's, if you read what he said for comprehension. decline doesn't mean "utter shit", it means lesser gooderer or some such thing-- yes?. rather ripped made me very sad though. the eternal is ok but just ok. i did love the jam-band style o-rourke era, and i think some tracks in murray street are fucking epic, a sort of culmination of a trajectory that began with the diamond sea (though again some might say "decline", e.g., diamond sea > rain on tin, for example). regardless. i think you're misreading what he wrote. he's just saying that the past was more better. if i recall well t&b is a huge fan of the out-of-print sonic death, for example. |
