Pomos make me whine and moan all the time, but this is really a disjointed article making silly demands for some nebulous sense of 'authenticity' that misses the entire gist of postmodernism and I'M TOO BUSY SHELTERING from a hurricane to explain further, but I will when I come back.

Don't take this personally, but in this case I regretfully have to agree with you. I hate to admit it, but most of the people I have met, and the percentage increases the older I get, don't just "not care" about art, and creative and innovative endeavors and expression, they don't just ignore it, they avoid it like the plague. They hate it. And it really bothers me. I have this guy I know who until recently, I considered a friend, and he would not only change my presets while I was getting gas or something to all rap and country stations, but would sit there and say "no way, I'm not listening to this shit" if I even tried to turn on a jazz station, or pop in a cd (most of my car collection is sy, + random 90s alternative and such). I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but such willfull, if not devoted, ignorance is inexcusable. When I tried introducing the same guy to bands such as sonic youth, and would explain "yeah, this band has had the original line up for almost 30 years and consistently puts out new albums and tours" his response was "must not be very good if I've never heard of em." Whether its art, music, film, literature, whatever, people are afraid of that which they do not understand. Therefore they dismiss it, and prefer the generic shit that the media and major corporations are shoving down their throats. Are the 2000s going to be remembered for rap and girl/boy bands and american idol flops?

Jesus died for your post-modernism.

I've just wasted an entire afternoon in the company of a postmodernist who's traveled all the way from the US in order to proudly tell a room full of people in the most complicated way possible that they've nothing to say. Thanks for that.
