I voted for giant wasps, because I'm scared of regular wasps and I've seen giant ones and they are terrifying. A swarm of them could disable you within seconds.

Well, giant squids exist, but they ar not as big as in the "mythical" drawings... I mean, it's like comparing Nessie with an anaconda...

without a doubt, giant wasps.

I'm not sure if it's a lingering effect from being stung in the ear as a child, or the green radioactive haze they give off....

the kraken from Clash of the Titans, Medusa as well is pretty scary, if youre talking current myths Id say the shark from Jaws, megaladon(which is extinct fortunately.)

oh forgot- the exploding, electrocuting con-edison manhole covers in NYC
