it seems to me that a lot of people put musicians up on a pedestal, never taking into account that they're people, not prophets. when people try to emulate their favorite musician or whoever, we get crap "scenes" and genres like emo and hair metal. and who the fuck wants that? i want to be able to turn on my car radio and know who i'm listening to, which is impossible when every band sounds the same.

Can I rephrase that? Everyone plays a musical instrument these days, but there aren't many musicians.

Rephrase away.
Everyone calls themselves musicians and that "music is their life" when to the majority of society it is nothing more than background music.

There's a lack of creativity among music-makers at the moment. There are people responding to the formulaic road down which music is going, but their responses are just as formulaic in their own way. People want to copy, not create.
EDIT - Hah! The joke's on me here. My own response is a formulaic one! |

Enthusiasm, talent, influences and imagination are all unnecessary. After watching the Fushitsusha DVD I figured out the secret to music……SUNGLASSES!! If you wear sunglasses while playing live you will sound ten times better.

Oh Lordy, that definitely DOES sound like a trip back in time. I remember the Jesus & Mary Chain and Sisters of Mercy wearing sunglasses and suddenly EVERYONE was. You couldn't go to a gig in the mid-80s without being bumped into by a hundred people who were blind as bats because of their sunglass-wearing.

Thanks, the sad thing is is that in Lex I played with the best drummer I've yet to play, and I've played with a few. He's better known as RdTv here, and if he tries to pull off that humble crap here, don't let him, cause he's an awesome percussionist. Now we get to jam maybe once a month, as opposed to our regular routine of every week. Oh, the good ol' days...
