Doesn't make sense to me, given the DUP's supposed insistence on as soft a Brexit as possible.

i knew she did but i misspoke, in the context that demonyo said of ignoring having triggered it. i mean the UK might pretend "nothing to see here" but europe wouldn't stand for it-- they want to get on with their lives. there are plans and investments to be made that require long-term commitments.

It's less about wanting a hard-Brexit than believing that the EU won't give us a soft-Brexit even if we try to negotiate one. It isn't in its interests to make any kind of transgression seem beneficial to the transgressor, for fear that others will follow. IMO, the EU can punish us less if we just walk away.
