Lee's comments when he shared the pix on Facebook (a year ago!) :
Meanwhile, back in New York: Decomissioning SY’s custom Neve 51 series console. @timothyglasgow installed this board at Echo Canyon in lower Manhattan in 2000, replacing an older Neve desk that we’d bought when we first established a serious recording studio-by that time we’d found we liked the warm Neve sound combined with 2” 16-track tape best for our music. Murray Street, Sonic Nurse and many other projects from that time were made on this desk, including many of our SYR series LPs. In 2006 Tim helped us move and install it at Echo Canyon West in Hoboken, where Rather Ripped and The Eternal were made, as well as SY’s last recorded music, SYR#9: Simon Werner a Desparu. Many, many other records by us and our friends were cut on this board-we’re trying to compile a list of them all. I produced Magic Markers’ ‘Boss’ and Wooden Wand’s ‘James & The Quiet’ on it, and some of my own recent solo albums, including Electric Trim, were cut on it. Now it has sadly seen better days and is in need of restoration, so with Tim’s help we are removing it for a second time and preparing it for its next life/next home. This was one kickass classic Neve console... thanks to @bentley_decontrol and @fredpaulriedel for help bidding adieu to this fantastic piece of gear. Any serious inquiries DM me for more info. #gearporn #neve #sonicyouth #echocanyon @ Hoboken, New Jersey

Maybe I was too hasty in my initial assessment, they could easily replace it with something else. Some of the pics of the labels on the channel strip are funny, many are labeled “fucked”. Seems like it was well loved but too enormous of a project to restore.
