Avril Lavigne calling herself Punk is like a 2008 American tourist going to the Europe for the first time thinking they themselves have liberated the continent from
the Nazis. I used to despise Avril and her image machine but when I heard her speak in an interview I just realised that she has the mentality of a 17 year old... Thurston can indeed rock out with the best of them but sadly enough it is a image/youth dominated pop world.

I have to agree with Jonh Lydon, that punk was an isolated spit in the face, a brief flicker.
Some bands including SY have captured the spirit & energy of punk IMO
