Halloween is ecaspism. When you're a kid an you dress up, you get to play like you were what you're dressed up as. As you get older its just a way to escape from your mundane stupid life for a night, and the ladies in scantily clad outfits aren't such a negative either.

well, my wife loves halloween, and i've learned to like it too, and here is why 1) it's a totally pagan holiday with no serious meaning attached to it 2) it is the equivalent to mardi gras outside of louisiana 3) it' all about having fun and get plastered 4) in a culture where death is taboo and everybody has to be nice and sunny, it's an opportunity to take your "dark side" for a stroll. 5) the movies play reruns of "a nightmare before christmas", this year on 3D. |

All these are good reasons. They just do not apply to me.
my escape is rock n roll. I cannot stand to be around drunks, especially without being stoned. It is the only way I can handle the repetative conversation of drunk people, and even so, it is damn tedious. Now, !@#$%!, "pagan" just means non-christian. Those pagans really do take halloween very seriously. mardi gras is hell on earth for me. worst time of my LIFE. and, how can you say death is tabbooo here? every ten seconds grisly death is displayed for all to see on television, movies, commercials, etc. america is all about the fascination with sex and death.

yeah im not a halloween fascist-- if it's not your thing, it's a free country. i don't feel there is the same level of social pressure to comply with halloween as there is with "christmas" now about the pagan thing... yeah i was not being technical. and i want mardi gras... pour out the unconscious into the streets now, yes, death is taboo in mainstream america. tv death is all about "other people", but "we" are nice and clean and cheerful and when people ask us how are you doing we answer "fine!" and we say "have a nice day!". |

I have only come to loathe Halloween because it has turned into a 6 week Halloween season. It is a day for CHILDREN but of course ADULTS have ruined it for them with thier predatory needs. Halloween should be just one day - last weekend I saw kids dressing up for parties - give it a break. People spend $100's for their front yard plastic Halloween scenes. Do they really understand the symbolism? And its not like the Mexican Day of the Dead which celebrates the ancestors.
BUt looking at the infantilization of our country, it makes sense. |

I mostly prefer the days ight after halloween when all the candy gets marked down.
And any reason to drink with friends is a welcome one in my book. |
