Scandinavian avant/jazz group the Thing have so many records coming out in the next year that it hurts our heads just thinking about all of them. So pull up a chair while we go find the Tylenol.

The Thing's first new release is a box set called Now and Forever, due June 30 via Smalltown Superjazzz. Now and Forever consists of four discs: three CDs and one DVD. The first two discs are dedicated to the Thing's out-of-print early albums, 2000's The Thing and 2001's She Knows..., the latter recorded with Joe McPhee. The third disc is a DVD called Live at Ĝya, featuring the band's 2005 performance with Thurston Moore at the titular festival. The final disc is a previously unreleased audio recording of an improvised suite called Gluttony.

Then, on October 27, the Thing will release a new studio album titled Bag It! via Smalltown Supersound. Recorded by Steve Albini, the album features the Thing's versions of songs by Duke Ellington, Albert Ayler, the Ex, and others, including a couple of originals by the band and by its saxophonist, Mats Gustafsson.

Finally, the Thing are preparing two live albums for release early next year. One is a show they did with Jim O'Rourke recorded by Otomo Yoshihide, and the other, fittingly, is a show they did with Otomo Yoshihide recorded by Jim O'Rourke. Both shows took place in Tokyo late last year, and both records don't have titles just yet.
