you guys know that this was not a thread about crosses right? I happen to wear a cross, but this thread was in order "necklaces, amulets, chains, crosses, etc etc." in fact, I understand why people were or do no were crosses, it is necklaces in general that trips me out. it is a common thing that serves no real purpose for any of us who were any of them! and yet it is a 40,000 year old continous tradition..

the first guy who found a pretty shell or a pretty rock m abnd put a piece of thin rawhide through it, was a genius!
speaking of things such as this. isaac asimov once wrote that it is a very biased view we have of inventions that halped humanity, because most of the inventions that truly helped us evolve civilization were created by women, and they were degradable. the first basket, the first mat, the first bowl, the first utensil for cooking. the first fabric clothing. most of these things were likely invented by women, but no record exists of this. the items just rot away through time. now the real question is, who invented the BJ? women to get their man to shut the fuck up? or lonely hunters out for a fortnight under the poetically beautiful brokeback mountain moon?

I don't know ANYONE who wears this shit anymore.
But when I was in 3rd grade, I wore a necklace with a silver dragon pendant on it that had two green fake emeralds in its eyes! |

Well, obviously, I see old women wearing necklaces and jewels and shit, but of all my friends and girlfriend, not a single one wears any jewelry. Hell, I'm the only one who wears a watch!

being bone thin and showing your collarbones is chic, and jewelry hides that

A lot of Christians wear crosses around their necks. You think when Jesus comes back he ever wants to see a fucking cross? It's like going up to Jackie Onassis wearing a rifle pendant

not just traditional necklaces and jewels, but also anything people put around their neck these days. i'm sure the people you see on the street are wearing them, though many people in LA may seem cro-magnon, I assure you we did not invent them!

I used to have one of those silver necklaces with the beveled, flat links like you see on bracelets. Had the bracelet too.
I used to wear beads sometimes. There was this one funky summer during which I wore a dried-out seed pod on a military silver chain "dog tag" necklace. And I used to wear a St. Christopher amulet/medallion too. |
