While not my favorite of theirs (that honor would go to Wowee Zowee), Brighten the Corners is most definitely my "go-to" Pavement album. I never really understood all the dislike for it, maybe because I never really listen to Pavement for all the racket-y, lo-fi stuff (though when it's there, it's certainly appreciated), but I mainly listen to them because they can craft a fuckload of melodic tuneage, and BtC has a ton of that.
Anyway, I hope this does see the light of day this year. The last three are the only deluxe editions I've bought by any band and they were worth every cent. |

They really don't look or sound anything alike. They happen to have similiar facial expressions in that picture.

OK. Let's discuss what would happen if John Spencer and Neil Haggerty got into a bar room brawl.

You know I don't think I've evr listened to the second disc of the Wowee Zowee deluxe edition. I've just never felt inclined to put in on, I'm not sure I love Pavement enough to be interested by their demos or whatever.

I never said they looked the same, just that they both have the same typical alternative rock band singing that I don't really like. In that respect they are interchangable. |

I don't get this. Even if I did, there's the issue of words. QUICK QUIZ! Who wrote these: Someone took in these pants Someone painted over paint, painted wood She's eatin' her fingers like they're just another meal So drunk in the august sun And you're the kind of girl I like 'Cause your empty and I'm empty And you can never quarantine the past ...etc. I don't have time to type out all my favorite Everclear lyrics. (Or is it Everlast? Eversuck? Hmmm....) |

S&E and Crooked Rain (no, I do not feel the need to type "Crooked Rain" again) are probably their two most worthwhile albums. Again, it's a cheap fondness, but a fondness nonetheless. You know what else I like? Everclear's "Local God." Seriously. |

Eh. I loved Everclear in high school. Whatever. They're like KISS. Dumb catchy safe rock posing as edgy. No big whoop. I can get nostalgic from time to time.

Pavement — Brighten The Corners: Nicene Creedence Ed.
September 23rd, 2008 at 8:57 am by Patrick November 18 will see the release of Mark IV in our series of deluxe reissues of the original Pavement albums. Brighten The Corners: Nicene Creedence Ed. sports the amazing packaging and deep contents that you’ve seen in our previous three deluxe editions. The CDs come in an embossed slipcase with a 62-page perfect-bound book containing photos, ephemera, writings and more. (The record will be out on Domino in Europe and Matador everywhere else.)
