My main issue with ipods, and I strongly doubt anyone on this forum is guilty of this, but "kids these days" can't even fucking listen too one song for it's full duration without flicking between tracks, let alone listen to a full album in it's entirity. Basically they're killing the ultimate music artform. End of.

This just means I won't get daily updates on the development of Ghost-Pop and Synth-Folk the way I used to. Damn.

there is a program for macs called podworks that is invaluable for transferring files from ipod to desktop.
unfortunately, I do not think that they make a version for pc, and dragging files from My Documents is iffy at best. I've seen programs at office depot a few years back that claimed to work, but I don't know how well. I believe they were about $20. that might be worth it if yr talking about a lot of tunes. my guess is yr file registry is somehow corrupted. it's doubtful a pc-side error would corrupt all of the files on yr ipod. it would take forever to write over them. ps: I have had my 30gig iPod for almost four years and have never experienced a problem with it. sadly, my trusty friend is being traded out for an 80gig (classic) this friday. once I'm finished filling up those extra 50gigs, I'm sure my sadness will subside. |

Illegal downloads ? Shit, mp3 ought to be illegal for it's OWN sake !!
Too bad about the music loss, but it WAS mp3. Now just go out and get the real thing. FULL FILE.

That sucks, man. I know quite a few people this has happened to, or their hard drive crashed and they lost everything or whatever. That's why I never leave anything I downloaded on a shitty, easy-to-break little device. I burn that shit immediately if I can. I'm not the best person to talk about this though, as I have no idea how to use an ipod or a cell phone.

Hey batreleaser do you not have those files on your computer? Or do you just put them to your ipod and delete them?
Personally, I don't like using ipods... the ability to switch albums and songs SO easily sort of... cheapens the effect of the music to me. And I know I can easily switch albums on my desktop computer but it's a lil different. |

you can easily switch albums whenever you put them on your hifi too, you just walk over to the stereo and change them over, simple as that.

A one terrabyte harddrive will hold about 1300 65-70 minute FULL WAV FILE cd's. BUT, I would ALSO back that up on smaller 250-320 gig harddrives just so if one went el broko I'd still have the others. Then quickly transfer whatever you lost from the alternative storage device.
Or try Carbonite or another "offsight" storage facility. It may be too expensive or not allow enough data storage though. http://www.devlounge.net/webapps/sav...ackup-services

I have about fifty 1.5tb external hard drives in a big stack in my room, each one with a piece of huge tape listing every single album written in sharpie.
That's not true. |

and by silverbacks I meant I am neutral on the subject of ipods. I do wonder about earbud headphones though. Wasn't there a mammoth deal in the late 80s/ early 90s about how much more damaging bud type phones are to your hearing?

I like the backup. I can take my HD elsewhere and play my music from that, as an alternative to an iPod. I trust them more. Once your music is ripped, the data transfers are lickity split. As far as offsight, that's a no brainer. If YOUR storage device fails, you could retrieve it from them. It's a labor of LOVE ! I backup all my music, photos and data. It's easy and I do it simultaneously as I'm online anyway. It's no problem at all. You people who are TOO busy, you need to simplify and direct your passions toward a qualitive focused pursuit. Mine is music. I'm anal about it, but not much else, 'cept for peaceful solace.
