I dunno, I think if SY got into the Hall of Fame, they'd probably play Teenage Riot and Kool Thing and leave it at that...

-Stooges definitely deserve it the most out of that list, no question.
-Genesis have some redeemable qualities, at least for the Gabriel-era stuff. Deserving, I guess. -I hate ABBA and KISS, but I guess they were expected. -Ditto with RHCP, Donna Summer, and Jimmy Cliff, though I hate them less. -LL Cool J? For what? -The Hollies have some good stuff, but not really "hall of fame" material in my books. -Haven't heard enough to comment on the rest. All in all, fuck the RnR Hall of Fame. |

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame seems like a big fucking joke! What's next, are they going to induct Beyonce and Britney Spears?? Give me a fucking break!

if you go to the museum itself, there are exhibits of "rock stage fashions" and they ahve NSync costumes,a nd christina aguilera costumes, and cher costumes. NOT rock N Roll.
maybe it is because the Hard Rock cafe already took all the good memorabilia?

Madonna has done more with her recent gypsy activity than any political band has done in 30 years, with the possible (execrable) exception of the live AIDS musicians.
Politics isn't rock n' roll, but I think people have a habit of missing that, contentious bitch though she may appear, Madonna's very good at getting people's heckles up. Meanwhile, Iggy Pop has been advertising insurance.

Ok, that's slightly hyperbolic, but my point is that the SYG indie cabal do really need some sense of perspective from time to time. Get Abba in there, then we'll think about the Stooges, eh?

Some of the artists on that list aren't associated with rock and roll. Since when was Reggae, Hip Hop and Europop Rock and Roll? Did I miss something?

The Stooges are like the new Black Sabbath. Everyone in the industry suddenly seems to be falling over themselves to show their love. It should go to Abba but it'll go to the stooges, i'm sure.

The Stooges have been on the nominations list for the past fuck-knows-how-many-years and have never got in. (When REM (who were inducted the first time they were nominated (ie: the first year they were eligible) and Patti Smith got inducted in 2007 they made a point (protest) by playing "I Wanna Be Your Dog" together at the ceremony..)
Iggy has not been inducted as a solo artist either (compare with Lou Reed who got in twice.. once with the VU, once as a solo artist.) Whoever it is votes for this shit has no regard or respect for Iggy. So, as an Iggy fan, I say FUCK the hall of fame. If The Stooges get in this year it will be sad because Ron was the only one who really wanted it. I hope Iggy tells them to fuck off (he won't, but I wish he would.) |

I think Iggy's kind of.. become okay with looking back since he approached and hit 60. (He said for ages that he'd retire at 60.. so maybe now he just wants to bask in what he knows is his best work?)
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprized if this thing with James Williamson doesn't work out (or, god forbid, JW pops his clogs before they can do anything much) Iggy doesn't start calling Bowie asking if he maybe wants to do some Berlin retrospective concerts or something. The "Don't Look Back" organizers would lose their shit over that (I wouldn't mind either..) PS - I think Iggy's done more good work "solo" than Lou Reed has (though they both owe Bowie a fuck load.) And Iggy's a million times better live than LR has ever been. I think in the Iggy v Lou shit/rad records stakes Iggy actually comes out on top. I know (despite all the shit) I'd take three Iggy records (The Idiot/LustForLife/New Values) over any three Lou Reed records. And I'd always chose to go see Iggy if he and Lou were playing London on the same night. I think it's absurd that Lou Reed is in the Rock Hall of Fame twice and Iggy's not in there at all. |

I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, once. It was the most boring and painful museum I've ever been to, but I acted as though I loved it as to not upset my Aunt. Got a t-shirt from it, too.
