i voted no, but with a caveat:

i was once taking zoloft for about a year. it was fucking great-- i had unkillable boners (it delays the orgasmic response & hence blah blah blah-- great for men, for women, well, a problem).

i also took paxil for a few months. gave me some funky dreams and what felt like out-of-body experiences. lots of fun.

i don't need them anymore, as my thought patterns are a lot more amusing these days, which makes the assistance of pills moot. and coffee and cigarettes do the trick of making my neurotransmitters hop, for the most part.

I've taken these ssris: zoloft, paxil, prozac, effexor, remeron (a doozie)
I've taken these anti-psychotic/anxiety: valium, wellbutrin, klonopin, xanax

I think ssris should only be used in certain dire situations. far, far too many get on these drugs for far, far too long & they are just as zombifying & soul-sucking as hard drugs...& without the pleasure. It's all such a dirty high.
no one knows how ssris "work" & what the long term effects are; it's in the pdr. most of the time it's trial & error, as one is prescribed a cocktail based upon incompetent sit-down sessions. I only took ssris when I absolutely had to for the purpose of preventing suicide. The anti-anxiety/anti-psychotics I took as recreational drugs.

Xanax & alcohol (mixed any other drugs too) causes severe brown & black-outs. I had a friend who robbed a Dunkin' Donuts when he was on alcohol & xanax & he doesn't remember much about it. He was the guy I was with when I tripped to see Sonic Youth at Lollapalooza in Denver & we smoked the bomber.

Nowadays, I take klonopins every now & then (a friend has a prescription), & I also get better pills (a friend's father is terminally ill) from time to time.

I still maintain that it takes a steeled individual to mix alcohol & xanax & be out & about & not have bad things happen & for even with those of a high tolerance, it's like russian roulette if you make it a habit.

On the Picks # 2, I put Making the Nature Scene as the closer from ATP & Thurston is going," Don't take Xanax!" as they leave the stage heha.

oh yeah you gotta chew. I do little bits at a time with just about anything. You get a better hit & more hits that way.

But I have this physical illness thing, and back when I used to bother seeing them, the doctors always used to ask me if I wanted anti-depressants, even though it was perfectly clear that I didn't need them (because I wasn't in the least bit depressed). From what I can gather nowadays, everyone I know who is ill and visits the doctor is being encouaged to have anti depressents, despite all the evidence making it clear that they are not required. There's some kind of unnofficial policy going on (at least within the NHS on Mersyside) to try to get people to take these things. I'm not sure why that might be though.

i stopped taking effexor just over a month ago after I caught a virus which i developed in Atlanta, while the with drawl wasn't as bad this time (this is the 3rd time i forced myself off effexor cold) , still got quite bad headache which haven't gone away

but as of right now i am more moody, feel like snapping a bit more at people (haven't yet), and I have the worst short term memory anyways, so like last night i was browsing and there was a site i wanted to check out, i completely forgot what site it was after about 15 seconds (and this happened about 4 times last night alone)

I always forget to check things on the internet a minute after I think about it. I don't take anti-depressants or ever have. I don't know anyone who has either...not close friends anyway...except Valium to allay the anxiety of an acid trip. It seems to be more common in the US but increasingly common over here.

I don't know how eager doctors over here are to prescribe them but I imagine they are fairly keen to. I haven't been to the doctors in about 10 years at least.
