I also fell asleep the first time I watched it. The second time I thought it was an over-rated piece of arse.

it is one of my personal favourites, despite the trendyness of it (and another favourite: Nightmare Before Christmas/anything Tim Burton). fucking trendwhores ruining good movies.

yeah, where I lived it's really gotten lumped into the emo scene, and the underground/indie poser scene.

LOL@UNJAMMER
It's decent. I mean I love it but it isn't that great of a film.

Well, it is better than
Neo Fight or any of those Matrix movies that also grew to be quite trendy with the know-nothing Playstation generation. Yeah, you read me right; I went there. Donnie Darko was named 14th best on EW's "50 Best High School Movies" in the latest issue. "There are funnier high school movies and ones with better soundtracks and more nostalgic value, but how many of those deal with time travel, alternate universes, fate, God, free will, therapy, censorship, teenage angst, falling airplane engines, pedophilia, and a scary freaking bunny? Point made. And while we still don't necessarily understand it all, few films deal so matter-of-factly with the sheer dread (both literal and metaphoric) of teen life." |

I think you just easily proved you are very green when it comes to an appreciation of great movies. Since it doesn't even make my top 100 and I'm not sure if it would even make my top 200, I could name at least 150 movies that are better. |

I think the direction and concept were meh. Not horrid, not fantastic, but meh.
However, I also have a prejudice against all thinks Jake Gyllenhall, so that could have influenced it. His acting style is too choreographedly nonchalant to be convincing. Which amounted to the whole film as seeming like too much of an effort. I'll admit the bunny gave me nightmares, but a lot of things do that. A friend of mine keeps raving over Empire of the Sun, and I have yet to see that. But we split a newsgroup, and the asshole keeps hogging it. Torrents are wonderful, except when I'm seeding, it causes distortion on my phone as it's an internet phone. Just in case anyone wanted that irrelevant drivel. |
