religion is strange indeed. strange that we believe we were created by something exterior to the universe.... doesn't universe technically consist of everything in existence all at once... universe?
who created the creator? why would there be intelligence in a void outside of a dark starry vacuum? it makes no sense to me at all.
i'm more for quantum metaphysics.... we are all made up of the energies that exist everywhere. everywhere. all at once.
then again there's the question of evolution.
i can't believe there are people who deny such an observable and absolutely quantifiable and rational theory.

i don't dislike religion though. it gives hope to people. I like Islam a whole lot. It's so misunderstood on the world stage. They are very peaceful. I guess some of them are just sick of being fucked with by outside cultural assimilators like.. uhm.. white guys with giant tanks and machine guns that say they should be like us, because, in doing so, they are being "liberated"... anyhow that's digression at it's finest.

my family's protestant. i was practicing zen buddhism for a while, but I'm too razzy by nature to handle being all passive and quiet. maybe again when i'm fifty.

bla bla bla

I'm Roman Catholic and it works real well for me. I that if all else fails in my life, I will still have one true thing left. It's pretty good self-discipline too.

The Reason I am thinking of becoming a christian again is cause most of the times I feel shitty, and I just need some hope, and I haven't found it in other religions, and maybe I will find it here in Christianity.

the thought of hell is scary indeed....would explain why you can't sleep....also, it is perfectly natural for humans to be seeking answers and/or hope...a box in the ground is not so comforting...and really makes no sense at all if you believe you have a soul....for those curious, i'd recommend checking out a local church or ask any Christian friends/neighbors where they go...or pm me...

I'm non-religious, but writing off religions, especially something like Catholicism with a long tradition of philosophic thought, as blind faith is a little reductive.

I also dislike the idea that a lot of atheists have that just because they disbelieve in God their thought is automatically free, which I personally think is utter bollocks.

Choosing a religion is something I could never do, it doesn't make sense to me really, but if you need it & believe it, go for it.

I'm thinking of Becoming Christian again,
Or

Actually, the "Or" is Part II for which I could locate no image.
I refuse to revisit the theatre of the absurd this time around by getting actively involved with this discussion, but the picture is more germane to topic than one may think.
(I may post some copy and pasting from previous "religion' threads).

Either/Or is an utterly fantastic book, among my favourites.

I'm also keeping shtum on this subject.

I've never seen it as one book. I read from the Hong's translations (Princeton Press editions) for most of Kierkegaard's works.

Yeah, this is a good bit of reading...

Yet Einstein himself believed in God.

Let's go back to this whole label of "God," because as you shall see, I presuppose nothing. By naming God as a separate entity, we also do a disservice to the Truth. The earliest philosphers knew this to be the case & thus prohibited the naming of God. Language usually serves to only perpetuate the virus of confusion further. In our corporeal state, the dimension of time is absolutely & certainly a reality. But in Relativity, Time is just another dimension that is relative & is not absolute at all. What are the constants? There are none. The speed of light comes closest to being a true constant; it's absolutely constant in a vacuum of space. So what does this mean, then? It means that all matter in the universe is in constant flux & transformation, but in essence, everything always perfectly zeroes itself out no matter what. This defines our universe a continuum. Time & Eternity have a strange (seemingly paradoxical) relationship to each other. We can observe that the really large things in the universe are a bit more stabilized than everything else & follow precisely predictably ellipictal orbits & lifespans. On the other hand, we can attempt to observe the smallest of things & what we discover is beyond our wildest ideas of ever understanding because of the amount of kinesis & the overwhelming amounts of nuclear energy involved. Ponder that nearly all atoms of matter that everything is composed of is made up of overwhelmingly empty space. The closest we can (& probably will) ever get to being able to predict anything about these infintesimally small particles of matter is through what we already have, Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, which allows us to guess intelligently by using the shadows.

With our conscious waking minds, we perceive separations that aren't ultimately there. All matter is composed of slightly varying forms of the same field of energy. God is not "the Other". There is no such thing as "the Other" except in one's own mind. Your unconscious already knows All a priori if you can key that information into conscious activity through calming your restless fears & anxieties. From all this it should naturally be apparent that our incessantly clinged-to notion of a "Knower" & "the Known" is yet another false boundary that is reinforced through the conditioning of our seemingly ever-pervasive creaturely existence.

Just out of curiosity Atari, and by way of a divergence, I notice a deeply held distaste for Hegel in your posts, and a constant eschewing of the concept of 'other' - what do you make of Lacan? Personally, I find his double-bind ("C'est toi! - non - c'est l'autre, mais les autre est toi") pretty compelling, albeit superhumanly brainmelting.
