I always thought that one was a bit cheesy, it's too polished for my liking. The last few albums the solos are good technically from a guitarists point of view but they're pretty boring really. On the first few albums the solos were really raw and innovative and are far better in my opinion.

I could go off about one of my favorites of the Japanese redline-riding style, but in the interest of not being so "regugitative and repetitive" ( a somewhat valid atari2600 criticism), I will cast a vote for "Moisture" by The Residents. There is some debate between myself and a friend as to whether this is the work of Fred Frith or Snakefinger (they are both great players and they are both on this album), but it is pretty great no matter who lid it down.

But I think YLT's song We're An American Band has my favorite solo of all time. I've never been so moved before during any bands live performance as when they played that song.

I've never really cared for solos, to be honest. Only a few bands can pull them off without me being overly critical: Smashing Pumpkins, Dinosaur Jr...

Almost makes you wanna dance. Good choice. Shut Up by the Monks has a nice solo and nothing else that hasn't already been mentioned comes to mind - unless the Father Cannot Yell noise/solo counts, which I think it should. |

neil young, dudes
i especailly like that part in "vampire blues" where he just plays one note like a dying motor, just weird huzz cloud in an otherwise very blues based song. plus all those epic songs w/ crazy horse |
