Well, let's see what the suggestions are first and then i'll count them and make a poll.If any of the mixologists are musicians, feel free to also throw in music composed by yourself for the task.

Just a thought, Porks - Whatever film gets chosen, it needs to be something that is easy for people to buy or rent wherever they live.

Yeah, that's why i was thinking about Blue Velvet.Unless we just get some suggestions and then we all do whatever movie we choose. That's also an idea and i think it would probably stimulate the creativity of the respective mixers much more, don't you think? So,yes,we don't all have to choose the same movie as some of us might not have seen any particular one.

And it might be difficult for people to summon up the enthusiasm to do a soundtrack for a movie they don't like.
(I should mention at this point that I can't actually take part in this, I just happen to love the concept so much that I want to make sure there are as few obstacles as possible to it working. Please excuse my interference.) |

I got the idea by reading the script for Sarah Kane's play 'Blasted' (thanks for your suggestions Glice!).

Do something that isn't a modern art or indie film. As much as we all love our David Lynch, Stanley Kubric and Quentin Tarantino. . . I think it would be boring.
It just seems really cliche to me. If we do Blue Velvet for example, half the people here would choose an early creep sonic youth song for the Roy Orbison scene. Other people would just choose something purposefully cheesy. To predictable in my opinion. I'd rather see what people would do with a classic movie like Casablanca or Hitchcock. I'd really love to do Casablanca, that one has a lot of potential. Plus most people have seen it, it is easy to obtain, etc. |

Casablanca is a good choice but Nil By Mouth is closer to the heart.I try not to question whatever people choose for as long as it DOES mean something to them.

I think that a complete movie would be to time consuming.
My first thought was Lumière et compagnie (1995) Plot Summary 40 international directors were asked to make a short film using the original Cinematographe invented by the Lumière Brothers, working under conditions similar to those of 1895. There were three rules: (1) The film could be no longer than 52 seconds, (2) no synchronized sound was permitted, and (3) no more than three takes. The results run the gamut from Zhang Yimou's convention-thwarting joke to David Lynch's bizarre miniature epic. The reason why I choose this, is because there are 40 - 52sec shorts to choose from. Here's David Lynch's 52sec Version 1 Quicktime .mov Version 2 Google video ps: One of us would have to up them, for all. |

I was thinking about The Big Lebowski too, but I can't think about a scene out of it without having in my mind the original soundtrack, it's one of my favourite movies and images+music blend together every single time I think about it, and this makes working on an "alternative" soundtrack waaaay too hard for my synapses.

I've had a bit of a go at doing an alternative soundtrack for Argento's 'Demons'.In the end i made the music and samples myself trying to remember the movie as i haven't watched it in a few years.I hope it's suitably 80's.Kill me now.
