Even after all these years, this sounds so perfect in so many ways. If I had to take only one "desert island" album, I would take this. I can listen to it over and over. What is there to love? The songwriting, the interlocking tightness of the band, the great mix/mastering/engineering and how it brings out the best of the band and th songs, Kim's harmonies... . It's all uplifting and cheerful even when it's dark. It's like this big, enthusiastic fuck you to the darkness. My goodness.

Love it. This is what I imagine/fantasize the Stones might have done between Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers or maybe after Fingers if they'd stayed true to their junky outlaw vision of themselves instead of worrying about becoming respectable.

I still dont *get* Royal trux. I dont like the Stones either though, so maybe you have a point about there being a connection I know this is hip hop for people who read Pitchfork, but its still good

Definitely a connection, I think. You get them or you don't. In their day, in the early 1990s, I got them for a while. Then later I couldn't touch them. Now I'm rediscovering them and think they're greater than I remember them. Which is why I never trade, sell, or give away anything in my collection.

Ive given both Twin Infinitives and Cats n Dogs a fair go, and neither does it for me on any meaningful level. Having not been impressed by their music their image and story became even more tedious, which only convinced me that I was right. They understood their image and its role as far as ive read anyway

Royal Trux- one of the few big deal 90's college rock/indie bands I never got into. I guess I favored JSBX in the Pussy Galore split. I actually don't think I've ever listened to a full album.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to foreverasskiss again.Played this about 3x over the last 2 days as well as on tape in my car to work. Gets better each time. Their first few albums are too haphazard for me but with this they get it right. Veterans of Disorder, a later one, is also excellent. I'm hoping to go get the singles, unreleased, live set next week. Finding new love for these guys.

They're not that big of a deal. But that's exactly what they' were after. That they managed to become something wtih that approach is interesting, I think. They truly didn't care, like Keith in a junky dream, and yet they made records that caught on with enough of us.

I tend to agree but I also think Neil's Stones obsession with RT ended up becoming quite destructive from a purely creative standpoint. It wasn't until he formed Howling Hex that he was able to take elements of that Stones fetish into a more interesting direction - maybe by latching onto more wayward tracks like Hey Negrita, rather than the more standard early 70s blueprint. It's still a Stones obsession but at least it was picking up on a more unusual side to them. |
