I spent a nice night watchin
Let the right one in-it's quite weird but nice, the location perfectly harmonizes to the theme, I'm not really into vampires and some things reminded me Buffy the vampireslayer, but it's a very good film, cruel and sweet. XXY-this movie is amazing. wonderfully directed, this story of a 15 yrs old "hermaphrodite" hits you in the heart and twist your guts. So many interrogatives arise and during the movie you explore every opinion you can have on gender identity crisis. very good screenplay waltz with bashir-very cool, though I dont like the tricotomy in the end of christians, isrealians and palestinians in the end, I don't believe israelians can be justified because they didn't know what was going on in the refugees camps... the first half is very interesting, with this journey in memory and the interpretation of amnesia. some scenes are really beautiful, his flash-back in primis . |

On the subject of Pineapple Express:
I thought the last scene where they're at the diner, reflecting on the events, was fucking brilliant. |

I'm trying to remember what rating I gave Pineapple Express way back when. I think 3/10. Hated all the characters, hated the uhm "story", and didn't really know what it was trying to be. It wasn't a comedy, since it wasn't funny; it had some weird bro-love bullshit and some admittingly cool action scenes, but I dunno. Very weird, too, I saw it in a packed theater and there were no laughs.. just some chuckles. And I have a pot smoking friend whose favorite genre is stoner movies and even he thought it was one of the worst films he's ever seen. Everyone I talk to in real life who has seen it hates it... with good reason. It sucks ass.
Then, you get on the internet and everyone thinks it's the greatest movie ever made. Very bizarre. Admittingly, I saw it 3 days after my aunt died, and my girlfriend took me to it to cheer me up, and I probably wasn't in the right mood to watch it, but I dunno. As much as I didn't like it, I feel somewhat intrigued to try to re-watch it now giving the glowing reviews from certain people whose opinion I usually respect. It wouldn't be the first time I changed my mind about a movie..... |

"Che Part 1" - anyone with an aversion to Benicio del Toro's singular way with scenery-chewing fear not, as our man excels here in the titular role of Ernesto Guevara. A compelling study into the rise of this historical figure, from passenger on a leaky boat to a triumphant approach to Havana. A film which treats it's subject matter with a subtletly and an understatedness which manages to avoid many of the cliches that could have befallen this movie. It also sets up the scene nicely for "Che Part 2", whereby you can begin to see the seeds of how Che gradually became undone by his own hubris and monomaniacal vision...

The Weather Man. I can't believe that I missed this underrated gem in theaters just because my lame-ass friends wanted to see Saw II. I purchased the DVD on the day of it's release and it's been one of my all-time favorites ever since. |

Pretty neat stop motion animation, based on the classic Peter and the Wolf story, and set to Prokofiev's suite.
