In general, I don't pay much attention to Bandcamp's customer reviews, but somebody wrote a brilliant paragraph about the album: "The interplay between these two is amazing, especially considering the circumstances of the recording. Sky scratching, transcendent modal melodies with Sonny Sharrock and (especially) Tom Verlaine as guiding lights. In fact, when this album is peaking (as it does frequently) it brings to mind those long ago nights when Television would make the Bowery levitate. Great stuff."

Tom Carter described said "circumstances": "Made Out Of Sound was in fact recorded in different rooms on different coasts at different times, and stitched together by Orcutt on his desktop. Corsano recorded the drums in Ithaca, NY, and (as Orcutt states), 'I didn't edit them at all. I overdubbed two guitar tracks, panned left/right. I'd listen to the drums a couple times, pick a tuning, then improvise a part, thinking of the first track as backing and the second as the 'lead', though those are pretty fluid terms. I was watching the waveforms as I was recording, so I could see when a crescendo was coming or when to bring it down.'"

Fuckin' awesome. Now I want a Richard Thompson album made like this.

Amenra - De Doorn

The new Amenra album was released yesterday. Damn fine doom post metal from Belgian. It is their first album that is entirely sung in Flemish language, but just ignore that. You wouldn't understand what they're singing anyway. For most of these type of bands I find the screamo vocals intensely annoying, this is just very intense, and done the right way.

"Tattoo You" was the last great Rolling Stones album...enough people have said it now so it must be true. It came out my senior year of high school and it felt like it was ours. I saw them twice on that tour and they were awesome.

Side two always felt like a unique suite. "Heaven" seemed the most narcotic song in their catalog, even before I really understood what narcotic meant. Oddly, then, one of the few recordings of theirs that doesn't include Keith Richards. Bill Wyman played guitar, synthesizer and bass; Mick Jagger sang and added some guitar; Charlie Watts played drums. I know, weird. "Tattoo You" is this weird outtake rummage sale album, I really love it.

I moved officially into a new home and office this week and this was the first song I played up on the 3rd floor when I got my amp set up. I hadn't thought about 'Heaven' in a really long time. The sun was setting and I was really tired and I played this for about ten minutes and wondered what it would be like to play it longer.

Wow, half an hour of "Heaven" by Brokaw! I didn't know about this - thanks for the link. Yes, Tattoo You is the last all-around bitchen Stones album, although Undercover is pretty underrated.

Hmm, I can't find this compilation on Bowie Station, either by Divine Symmetry (which shows up as a 2CD boot of performances at Madison Square Garden '97, VH1 Fashion Awards '96, and Bridge School Benefit '96) or The Lost Sessions.

one of my favourite album sleeves
listening to this album streaming from bandcamp on my tablet speaker, which is a bit of a blasphemy


the reason why I love the sleeve so much is that we hardly see that kind of ice buildups over here. It looks like it's photo-shopped but it's real.
At the moment certain regions in Europe have big problems with water though, such as here:

The first Esmerine album is a beauty

but I might as well add that additionally that day I listened to a whole bunch of other Esmerine albums as well as Rebecco Foon's solo album and her Saltland project which I actually liked a whole lot better this time than the previous time I listened to it, shortly after it was released
