I actually doubt even Kendrick is a literal millionaire. I doubt he could walk to the bank and take out $1 million. Music doesn’t sell like it used to, he doesn’t have huge tours and he doesn’t play he Super Bowl.

Probably a technical millionaire, but I doubt he has that much in liquid assets.

Kanye? Yes. Jay-Z? Yes. Drake? Yes.
Kendrick, eh... maaayyyybe.

No biggie.

Music is a subjective delight.

what I find tedious and uninspired can make you dance, and vice versa.

I do not look to Hip Hop for wisdom or advice or anything relevant to my day to day experience. I am a 46 year old Puerto Rican. Us Puerto Ricans created Hip Hop just as much as african americans, but we are left out of the history and conversations.

When I listen to Kendricks albums I am left with the impression I have heard it all before. I do not feel surprise, or joy, or fun, or whimsy, or fear, or suspense... I feel all those things when blasting Young Thug, Future, 2Chainz, Public Enemy, OUtkast, etc.

Hey don’t mistake my shit-talking for actually being mad that you and I have different opinions. Lol. I like taking to you about music even though it’s FUCKING INFURIATING!! Haha.

I’m genubely surprised that you think Kendrick is same old same old though. I guess I kinda did at first... back when louder (ever ahead of the curve when it comes to big time rap artists) was first hyping him. But the more I listened to good kid, mAAd city, the LESS it sounded like anything else.

Art of Peer Pressure did it. Nobody who previously toured with G-funk ever made something so seething and haunting. Narratively, it’s a marvel. The whole album is. But I would listen to any of it if it didn’t make me feel awesome.

So sick of Kenrick hype, I try to find reasons to NOT like his output. I take a very hard, critical look at his work, looking for flaws. Can't find many on Maad, Pimp or damn. A dud song here or there, a flawed line or two. Otherwise, certified GOAT. It's boring, really, how great his records are.

EDIT: Thought of something. He uses the word "pussy" way too much.

It *is* almost boring how perfect his records have been. Well put.

There are some meh moments on Section.80, but the great ones are SO great that I don’t give a shit.
I personally don’t enjoy playing TPAB that much because it’s so goddamn intense in a personal, not sonic, kind of way, and I don’t often get a hankering to meditate on dead black people, addiction, dead rappers, homeless people and the struggle with the ID. But it is objectively a brilliant album.

Damn is the one I bump the most, because once it starts, it feels like nothing else even exists.

Kanye’s production and overall sonic aesthetic is better and more “imperfect” in all the right ways to make it super interesting as a whole. But as far as RAPPING goes, Kendrick is so good it feels like it shouldn’t be a discussion.

He puts Eminem to shame in terms of interesting and structured flows and schemes over the course of a song, puts Pac to shame in terms of straight up rapping, and puts Biggie to shame in terms of swagger and intensity. (Yup, Biggie.)

I’m ready to call him the GOAT.

Yes. There is a lack of a sense of humor on Pimp. Even Maad had some amusing moments.

So, too much "pussy" and no humor at all on one record. Very, very minor flaws.

I can’t think of any rappers who don’t say pussy a lot, but sure.

Section.80 is only a good album. Definitely not a great one. But it has somemof his best songs, and every album thereafter (not counting the untitled. I unmastered EP or the snoozer Black Panther soundtrack) has been basically a 10. That’s goddamn amazing.

What will be disappointing is when he stops dropping near-perfect records. Right now he has more great albums than any of the other artists I mentioned (aside from Kanye).

Funny, I hadn’t really noticed the overuse of “pussy” from Kendrick.

So far for me:

1. Kanye West - Ye/Kids See Ghosts (neither feels like a full album on its own, but they’re both so goddamn good that my #1 spot might be a tie for the first time ever. They also feel like two separate parts of a potential full-length Kanye album)
2. Pusha T - DAYTONA
3. JPEGMafia - Veteran
4. Does Young Fathers count as hip-hop? If so ... Young Fathers - Cocoa Sugar
5. I guess Astroworld, but... it’s only half a good album. And it’s *way* more than one step down from Young Fathers.

Honorable mention: Nas - Nasir (I really don’t like the way Nas sounds on this thing... raping about anti-vaccer shit and some other truly cringe topics... I am not feeling Nas as an artist at all anymore... but this thing was Kanye-produced, and the production kills); A$AP Rocky - Testing; Fuck... who cares anymore

I haven’t heard Denzel Curry yet.

Hey Louder, have you heard Stockz?

I just stumbled across a song by the dude on Twitter... never heard him before... but the track, along with the dope ass fan-made video of a character from Arthur getting high as fuuuuck) made my mouth water with its awesomeness.

Check out the song. I can’t link the video because I don’t Twitter very good.

Also Louder (and anyone else with tastes similar to my own)...

The production duo DJDS — who guest produced on Kanye’s “Ultralight Beam” and have a similar production aesthetic to Ye himself at times — have a great new weirdass R&B/experimental pop record this year called “Big Wave More Fire.”

You have to check this shit out. Listen to the his track from start to finish just once and I will not bug you about it again (please!):

He’s small time. I liked him on Twitter and he messaged me like two minutes later. “Wanna hear new track?” I mean, good for him and that song is still good, but if he’s that new, he deserves a chance to make more music before being judged.

Ya meanie!
And also kinda me meanie!

He has stuff on Spotify, at least, going back to 2014. He has good taste in beats and he knows what he's doing on the mic. I'm sure he'll have a glorious future.

But everything I've heard is about money and pussy, which I don't have either of and don't need to hear about. That's all.

I think you'll like Floco Torres, or at least this song. Came out this week, I think. It's got a spacy RnB thing, but with not-lousy lyrics. (He's also communicative on social media, if that's a plus in your book)

I love your deadpan, give-zero-fucks honesty.
I’ve seen better days with both — ahh — pursuits — myself.

How come nobody ever raps about working so much they don’t have time to sleep with their own wives and girlfriends?

Whatever one thinks of Eminem, I recall finding the line

"All my life I was very deprived
I ain't had a woman in years, and my palms are too hairy to hide "

to be revolutionary. Indeed, I can't think of one other example of a rapper discussing a LACK of getting laid. Anyone?
