Thurston's poetry reminds of those biker films where Sonny Barger and Co. are giving us the benefit of their thoughts..."I look in the sky/Catches my eye/To Be so High/On The Road/Free Like A Toad/Ready to unload/The rules and ways/Of the Man these days/Purple Haze/The senses all phase/The broad's hot gaze/End of days/Erotic praise".

Kim Gordon said at the time of Coco's birth that she was never gonna become one of those of musicians who write all the songs about her daughter, and then you read that they recorded Rather Ripped with Coco in mind, or something along those lines. Your children should be kept out of your own creative process , mainly because you're selling records to a majority made up of childless people, so they can't relate to that sort of thing as well as you think they might. Nothing against kids, or having them, don't get me wrong.

Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" is a truly horrible song. What a way to blot his copybook.

well Kim sure has been influenced, but i don't think she has written any lyrics specifically about her, unlike coco's father
i was listening to some sister, and stereo sanctity was on, and those lyrics were quite cutting, and i think much has to do with the delivery of the lyrics more then the words themselves, sort of like Radical Adults Lick Godhead Style, while the words themselves don't appear to be much, the way he sings them really propels the song so he should write lyrics which he can be good at, and not poetry to music, like pink steam |

Joyce Sims' Come Into My Life is one of the best songs ever written.

I've always thought this thread invited the sort of shit I'm about to engage in right now. To write that Pet Sounds sucks is pretty fucked. Yes, Elvis Costello's best album is the first one with The Attractions, This Year's Model. Not that I care all that much about Elvis Costello.

Wolf Eyes may not be your cup 'o tea, but they do not suck. As far as the noise hybrid bands go, they are one of the best, if not the best.

People who rank Pet Sounds in their top three or so might be overrating it perhaps. The Beach Boys are a fine group.

Me too, it's inescapable. Those two weren't all bad back in the day, but I can't stand Green Day. The Fall can be extremely boring at times, and the opposite at other times.

Wow, the first person I completely agree with. Yes, this thread is a bit of a stinker.

I guess they were good at what they did initially because it was slightly more novel then, but overall, I agree.

You're an asshole. I've just added you to my ignore list. I'm not the hugest Nirvana-worshipper or anything, but to remark that you are glad Cobain is dead shows very little character on your part. Toodle-loo, fuckface.

I prefer Swans after Children of God to Swans before Children of God.

trance feedback doesn't care...they are just some blue-moon poster with an axe to grind. These people briefly appear on the board every now and then to write nothing but agitating messages and check back the next day or whatever to see if they heated anyone up successfully.

I think I do too. Earlier Swans may be their most raw, but it doesn't hold up to repeated listenings like say, early Sonic Youth. Children of God and after is a somewhat friendlier sound, less raw, but also somehow even more bombastic with the dynamics there with Jarboe. Of course, they went acoustic or otherwise stripped-down later.
