i feel like its pretty much the opposite in many ways. the old board did have its clique but in this place so much as a full stop out of place and you get it in the throat.. also if you state an opinion thats unpopular then you get the wrath of khan in yer ears. seriously this place is like a flirting forum on a dating site more than a bands gossip page most days. |

I understand what you mean, paulybee, I empathize with you; when I first came on here, I was surprised at the level of spiritedness and cohesion this board displayed as opposed to some forums on the internet; which are basically all about showboating. There is a sense of that here, but usually in a good-mannered, witty fashion, nothing serious or overtly competitve or hostile. But in recent times, it seems this community culture has been subverted somewhat; by certain indiviuals who seem to value their own oneupnamship above all else; and that includes the music and the musicians who we all adore(hence the fact that this board exists in the first place).
I sincerely hope this can come to pass, and that people have less animosity and more compassion, love and empathy in their dealings with other people; especially fellow music fans. That's it.

I can safely say that I value my oneupmanship a lot less than anyone else here.

What, really, is so bad about cliques? Are they not simply natural social associations?
Like-minded people tend to side with one another. There are certain people one prefers to socialize with over others. I believe that concept, in reality, is called having friends. It seems as though people only feel threatened by what they perceive as a 'clique' mentality when they are in a context in which they feel they need to prove their validity. People assert their opinions, yearn for them to be supported, and tremble at the thought of being countered or ridiculed. In this situation, such an individual feels threatened by a group of people that may, because of a shared perspective, collectively disagree with them. Thus follows the petulant braying of "Clique!" What is so difficult to understand about this concept? And what is so inherently evil about it? I like some of you more than I like others, and I tend to disagree with some members of the board moreso than others. This is true of EVERYONE on this board - it's a sociological given. So quit whining about cliques, because regardless of size, everyone's in one. The only problem is that it's fucking BORING lately. And there's no one to blame for that; we've simply encountered a brief quagmire. Again, let's pull our panties out of our asscrack, shall we? |

Cliques are groups of friends.
Elitists are people who care who their friends are. Complaining about cliques and elitism is funny. Obviously some people are gonna get along well, and some aren't gonna get along at all. I like people who can take and receive some friendly ribbings, people who don't take it personally when someone doesn't like the same bands they like (or indeed when someone hates a band they love), and people who can recover from a heated exchange and return to friendliness and respect. My recent exchange with trance feeeedback in the religion thread was great to me, because we got a little more heated than either one of us intended, acknowledged it and moved on. Trance feeedback is still someone I like a great deal, and probably more so now that I know we can recover from a dumb argument and remain friendly. More of that would be nice. |

Please don't get me wrong
See I forgive you in a song We'll call the likely lads But if its left to you, I know exactly what you'd do With all the dreams we had Just blood run's thicker, oh We're thick as thieves, you know If that's important to you Its important to me I tried to make you see But you don't wanna know You dont wanna know! If you pipe all summer long Then get forgiven in a song Well that's the touch, my lad They sold the rights to all the wrongs And when they knew you'd give me songs Welcome back, I said The blood runs thicker,oh We're thick as thieves, you know If thats important to you It's important to me I tried to make you see But you don't want to know You don't want to know Oh what became of the Likely Lads? What became of the dreams we had? Oh what became of forever? Oh what became of forever? Though, we'll never know Please don't get me wrng See I forgive you in a song We call the Likely Lads We all bought the ones We taught 'em all we wrote the songs That's filled with dreams we have But blood runs thicker, oh We're thick as thieves, you know If that's important to you It's important to me I tried to make you see But you don't want to know You don't want to know! Oh what became of the Likely Lads? What became of the dreams we had? Oh what became of forever? Oh what became of forever? We'll never know |

Who can turn the world on with her smile?
Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile? Well it's you girl, and you should know it With each glance and every little movement you show it Love is all around, no need to fake it. You can have the town, why don't you take it. You're gonna make it after all How will you make it on your own? This world is awfully big And girl this time your all alone But it's time you started living It's time you let someone else do some giving Love is all around, no need to fake it. You can have the town, why don't you take it. You're gonna make it after all, You're gonna make it after all Your the one most likely to succeed Just be sure to keep your head Cause girl you know that's all you need Everyone around you adores you Don't give up the world is waiting for you Love is all around, no need to waste it. You can have the town, why don't you take it. You're gonna make it after all, You're gonna make it after all Who can turn the world on with her smile? Who can suddenly make it all seem worthwhile? Well it's you girl, and you should know it With each glance and every little movement you show it Love is all around, no need to waste it. You can have the town, why don't you take it. No valley to deep. No mountain too high. No no limits, we'll reach for the sky, we do what we want and we do it with pride. Lemme hear ya say yeah! (wow!) Hard to the core, I feel the floor. When I'm on stage, yo, ya answer more. I'm on the edge, I know the ledge, I work real hard to collect my cash! Tick tick ticka tick take your time, when I'm goin' I'm goin' for mine. Open your ears and you will hear it. I tell you this 'cause there's no limit! No, no, no, no, no, no, no ,no ,no, no, no, no there's no limit! Ow! Hey yay yeah hey hey! Now, now, hey yeah yeh hey hey! Hoo! No limits allowed, cause there's much crowd, microphone check as I choose my route. I'm playing on the road; I've got no fear, the south from my mouth is on record here. There never will be no mountain too high. Reach the top, touch the sky! They tried to diss me cause I sell out... I'm making techno and I am proud!

Who’s that boy with the honey face, looks like he should be sedated
He’s all smash and grab in his adidas tags, wound up and agitated, And I bet he’s not a real punk boy Bet he’s not a real punk boy, bet he’s not a real punk boy Does your heart go boom when he walks in the room Do rain clouds scatter and fall Do you feel yourself sigh when he passes you by Or do you grow a hundred feet tall D’you go bang shang alang, every time you see him D’you go bang shang alang, every time you’re near him D’you go bang shang alang, every time you hear him If you don’t he’s not a real punk boy If you don’t he’s not a real punk boy If you don’t he’s not a real punk boy at all Who’s that boy with the ocean green eyes In rough trade every saturday, Don’t he look cute in his eighties track suit I wish I hadn’t thrown mine away And I bet he’s not a real punk boy Bet he’s not a real punk boy, Bet he’s not a real punk boy at all Do stars explode when he walks you home, on a cool and clear evening D’you wanna put him on like your favourite song Or never wanna hear him D’you go bang shang alang, every time you see him D’you go bang shang alang, every time you’re near him D’you go bang shang alang, every time you hear him If you don’t he’s not a real punk boy If you don’t he’s not a real punk boy If you don’t he’s not a real punk boy at all |

As I went home on Monday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw a horse outside the door where my old horse should be Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me Who owns that horse outside the door where my old horse should be? Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see That's a lovely sow that me mother sent to me Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more But a saddle on a sow sure I never saw before And as I went home on Tuesday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw a coat behind the door where my old coat should be Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me Who owns that coat behind the door where my old coat should be Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see That's a woollen blanket that me mother sent to me Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more But buttons in a blanket sure I never saw before And as I went home on Wednesday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw a pipe up on the chair where my old pipe should be Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me Who owns that pipe up on the chair where my old pipe should be Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see That's a lovely tin whistle that me mother sent to me Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more But tobacco in a tin whistle sure I never saw before And as I went home on Thursday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw two boots beneath the bed where my old boots should be Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me Who owns them boots beneath the bed where my old boots should be Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see They're two lovely Geranium pots me mother sent to me Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more But laces in Geranium pots I never saw before And as I went home on Friday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw a head upon the bed where my old head should be Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me Who owns that head upon the bed where my old head should be Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see That's a baby boy that me mother sent to me Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more But a baby boy with his whiskers on sure I never saw before And as I went home on Saturday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw two hands upon her breasts where my old hands should be Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me Who owns them hands upon your breasts where my old hands should be Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see That's a lovely night gown that me mother sent to me Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more But fingers in a night gown sure I never saw before As I went home on Sunday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw a thing in her thing where my old thing should be Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me Who owns that thing in your thing where my old thing should be Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see That's a lovely tin whistle that me mother sent to me Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more But hair on a tin whistle sure I never saw before
