Sonic Youth are probably the least single-oriented band that I can think of. Needless to say, a greatest hits really wouldn't work.
Also, I don't see the point. SY have a really solid fan base with knowledgeable fans who like more than jsut 10 or so songs. There's no real point for a greatest hits in my mind. And they didn't really have any hits. I suppose "Kool Thing" and "100%" could be considered "hits" to some though...

Sonic Youth is just about the least appropriate band for a greatest hits. They've barely ever had any hits, for one.

That would be fantastic. Especially if it was all seamless.

No, it's more or less just like a playlist of what iTunes considers "basic" tracks for the artist. There is also "next steps" and "deep cuts" lists.
There is no credibility in iTunes, considering that "Kotton Krown" and "Candle" are considered "deep cuts." No iTunes, them are basics.

I actually hate iTunes. But I'd buy from them if there was like an SY Originals... or actually there's going to be that live EP next month, isnt' there?

Yeah there's going to be a Sonic Youth edition of "Live from SoHo," where the band plays at the apple store.
Some of the videos from that performance are already up on youtube though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3x5k2-v7tAg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYX8j...eature=channel

I think a 'Best Of' compilation would be a great idea. Personally I'd like to see an 80s, 90s and 00s 'Best Of'. From recent threads it is quite clear that HEAPS of people on the board got into SY from Sonic Nurse onwards. The Best Ofs would be a great intro into the back catalogue for new fans.
Also, imagine them all collected in a 'Best Of vinyl box set'. 6xLPs with bonus Sonic Death on clear vinyl. Mmmm great. Isn't clear vinyl just the coolest?? *sighs* |

personally, i hate big box LP sets and deluxe LPs.
i really don't like deluxe editions (besides pavement) with bonus tracks and stuff. albums are, to some extent, sacred entities and shouldn't be tampered with even if the extra tracks are good.
