damn nice game, tense until the end, after the tie paraguay insisted on the offensive and didn't let up until santana got hurt & started limping-- from then on it was all about keeping the tie but italy kept putting the pressure.
zambrotta and pepe did play nice together although nothing came out of it. in paraguay i was hoping to see more from santa cruz but he didn't really deliver. my favorite game so far, cuz they were more or less equal teams and they both really wanted to win. ps- anyone knows WTF happened with buffon??? |

I enjoyed the second half far more than the first. Paraguay's goal and especially Camoranesi coming on sort of kick-started Italy into actually playing. It's still hard to see where their real threat up-front is gonna come from, though. I still think Holland, despite not being that convincing today, have too much talent not to make a serious cup challenge. But then that's what everyone says about Holland in every tournament. Can't wait to see Brazil tomorrow. |

I've been watching the 7.30pm kick-offs in the pub. I was disappointed that no Americans turned up to cheer on the USA on Saturday night. In fact I've been disappointed no other nationals have turned up to cheer their country on. I was hoping to meet some Italian chicks tonight. No such luck.

The United States of Mexico = Mexicans
The United States of America = Americans I used to think it was a reference to the continent, but that is the name of this country I live in.

And I suppose the American continent is formed by Mexico and the United States of America? The country you live in is called United States of America, while America is a continent, to be precise and anal.

Mexico, the country, has as it's full name The United States of Mexico.
So does the USA. United States of America. to call us Americans is fine, for no other country in the continents of North or South America have the word AMERICA in their name. no big deal.

As long as you keep it that way. Other non-americans continental americans might be insulted if they're called americans.

suggestion-- let's not talk about anuses and instead let's talk about the debut of the estados unidos do brasil tomorrow?
ps- i used to get annoyed by the america thing but unitedstatians is an awkward name. thing is, at the time of the country's creation, everything else was european colonies. there was no monopolistic intention, it was a matter of getting there first. but of course jefferson had this idea of the "united states of america" reaching all the way down to the patagonia. bolivar wanted "la gran colombia" (after columbus) to counteract the power in the north but everyone split into their own little fiefdoms and that's why the relatively gynormous brazil is the only "serious" country in latin america today. and by "serious" i mean they are becoming a world power-- still a minor one, but a power nevertheless-- mexico is too close to be allowed to get mighty. ok, so bets for tomorrow? i expect a proper massacre of north korea, say 7-0, but beware of knee-breaking tackles by the minions of the great leader kin jong il. |

i don't know; portugal is in the group and 1st place could conceivable boil down to the number of scored goals. (e.g., if portugal and brazil end up in a tie). so i say milk the north korean cow for all it's worth it and ensure the lead.
