funny thing, i only recently read that. something about english schoolkids deriving the words Association --> Assoccer --> soccer.

but yes, it's global resentment/nitpicking-- much like the rest of the continent is bugged by the USA calling itself "America" (but when they did, everything else was colonies, so...). this only bugs me a little but eh--i'm a traitor.
