If a category 5 hurricane were to hit in the same spot as Ike just did, downtown houston (45 miles away from the coast and about 50-65 feet above sea level) wouod have 2 feet of salt water in it. TWO FEET that far in. imagine the horror of that!
There are around 5 million people living in harris county and th surrounding areas. a real big monster fuck hurricane would make katrina look like a weaknut cousin. I'd still much rather live here than in LA or san fra n waiting for a 8.5 earthquake to destroy everything. Earthquakes are far far worse damage and destroy everything underground as asell as aboveground, starting countless fires and just apocalyptic devastation. maybe we can get cantank to start yelling at those "dumbasses" to move, huh?

tornadoes are more like russian roulette. you hear the siren and dive into your cellar and hope your home is still there when you get out!

^^^ close, but take out that part about the cellar.
believe it or not (pardon my Ripley's), most homes here DO NOT have basements. the lucky ones have storm shelters. not me. I just have balls made of steel (a bold-faced lie on my part...I'm a puss when it comes to 'nadoes). |

So... That people died seems like a given, right? What still puzzles me about Crypto's o.p. is the thing about the media ban on coverage.
What's the point of that?

media coverage is limited to either A) not scare the citizenry who lived there with gruesome destruction of all they know
or B) to hide the fact that the CIA and Bush family are smuggling tons of hash and haroin and opium from their storehouses in afghanistan through the port of houston and galveston bay

Bytor - some of what you say in your post is, if I read you correctly, rather shocking, in that the powers that be have effectively completely abandoned the Peninsula. That is pretty messed up, to say the least, not least for the people in that area who are struggling to survive.

erm, isnt it sad that 2 days after the hurricane hit land, us in europe got absolutely no more news about it. it was like, ok thats gone.... the action sequences from fox are finished for a while.... hurricanes are like shuttle launches over here now, european news looks at them and then they disappear with no trace of follow up stories.. its sad but i suppose we are not directly affected by it..
sorry what i meant to say stubborn they may be for staying but that doesnt negate the human tragedy and the many suvivors (who fled0 who are now homeless.... godspeed them to safety and to their families soon! |
