I just discovered them today and I'm pretty sure they're becoming my favorite drone/ambient band. I listened to Emeralds (2009), Solar Bridge, The Overlook and their latest Does It Look Like I'm Here? and they're all fantastic.
I also listened to a McGuire solo album (Language Barrier), very reminiscent of Manuel Göttsching/Ashra, all that kind of progressive electronic of the 70's. His project Skyramps (with Oneohtrix Point Never) is awesome too. God, I have not only discovered a great band today but also a whole amazing scene, I'm happy.

Honestly if you like this stuff then you really need to listen to the new Robe./UUUUUU split tape http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ACUDBB2X
It's verrrrry similiar to the Emeralds sound but with more going on. Sorry for the shameless promotion but you know, it's right up the Emeralds alley. |

Hahaha.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/nonkvd There's a sendspace link anyway for anyone who wants to download from a different site than megaupload. |

I HIGHLY recommend Klaus' Schulze's "Timewind", from 1975. It's pretty much what all these bands are referencing (careful not to say "ripping off") in their music.
http://www.mediafire.com/?ktzotmmc1zj Pretty much all his stuff is great, but Timewind is the one. It's probably the best type of solo synth shit I've heard. |

I dunno about that. They're doing something different than the droney stuff now. They're progressing. I like that. It isn't my favorite but I find it really interesting, some of the songs are really really good.

visited their gig last night in OT301, Amsterdam. Had seen them on Godspeed ATP. This time I was really carried away. Maybe also due to excessive amount of beer due to the delay in starting time.

Ah, I've got a copy of that one , but I don't think it's best by any means. I think Dream Team or A Pocket Full Of Rain are two of my favourites of his. I'm having a revision break tomorrow night to watch Emeralds in Shoreditch. |

Generally, the best McGuire stuff is the songs that are longer (you know, over 10 minutes), where he can really expand and layer. There are some tracks where he will layer 4 or 5 guitars, a mini orchestra of guitars looping.
I'd say his best is his s-t one from last year or Pocket Full of Rain. |
