I think this thread misses the point of all all points entirely. This continuos teasing between 'for real' and 'not for real' is so obsolete and rock-generated it's painful to witness in all its backward narrow-mindedness. Like it even fucking matters someone can sing in tune. Hypocrites.

One of my favourite modern ironies is that it's shows like Pop Idol that have become avatars for 'real people' 'singing live'. Not that they're not, but to have everything else surrounding it being largely artificial (something I don't object to - makes good TV) then stopping at the last hurdle is ludicrous. Brilliant, but ludicrous.

That woman who sang on that show (i've watched it on youtube, I don't remember the name now) proved how real and good she was at singing, even though I personally have no time for her style, and find it a little too much, truth being told. I don't get how extremism can become a way of listening or playing music that is meant to be really enjoyed, without the listener and the producer of records occasionally incurring the wrath of self-righteousness and ridicule because they so vehemently adhere to such strictly unshifting aesthetics.

Also, while I don't care for Beyonce, I have to say I see her as one of the lesser of many evils in mainstream music, epecially that genre. She cowrites most of her stuff (at least she used to, haven't actually read any credits on an album since someone I was with liked "Bugaboo"), and while I REALLY hate to admit it, that "Single Ladies" song is kind of catchy, especially when the minor chords come in and it starts to sound kind of menacing. That's totally fair enough, though. Taste is taste. I didn't mean with my other post to imply that only people into rock music are responsable for setting strict aesthetic rules in order for someone to really get the 'real' meaning of it. Everyone is at it, like it always was.
