Yes, i have it in MP3 format, downloaded from some tracker; and also have the 7'' single but i'm unable to transfer it to .flac at the moment. Thinking about getting a better turntable in the near future.

That cover of Pink Floyd's "Fearless" is also included in the third disc of Low's collection of odds and sods, "A Lifetime Of Temporary Relief: 10 Years Of B-Sides & Rarities". One of my favorite box-sets, ever. The text below is taken from the liner notes:

-fearless -Pink Floyd cover. Recorded during the "Trust" sessions, mixed at Third Ear with Tim Herbers. We tried hard to duplicate the sounds of the original, but you could play this song on a kazoo and it would still be good.

This website offers some priceless information, which provides some context about a great chunk of Low's discography from "I Could Live In Hope" to their "In The Fishtank" collaboration with The Dirty Three (No info about "Trust" and all the other records that followed, nor about a great deal of their output of B-Sides, but it's still an interesting read if you'd care to check it out):

I'd really recommend the box-set. I certainly think it'd be money well-spent. About 4 hours of music that documents roughly in chronological order their evolution as a band, right from their first ever demo tape (which contained an awesome version of "Lullaby") up until the time they recorded "Trust", apparently the span of time in which Low reached the peak of their greatness and then subsequently started to fall, according to certain opinions expressed by some demography of their listeners (though i don't agree one bit with that). Not only worthy in terms of tracks released as B-Sides: "Tomorrow One" and "Walk You Out", for instance, are really great in their own right. I'm glad they got released. The DVD contains three documentaries: One about Alan and Mimi's life in Duluth and Low as a touring entity, one about the recording sessions for "Trust", and the other about the humble origins of Low and The Dirty Three's record for Konkurrent's "In The Fishtank" series; as well as a large collection of their official video-clips, including a memorable alternate version of "Canada" that would lead you to believe with conviction (if you already didn't) that the repetitive nature of some of their songs is a really good thing and that if they would somehow indulge in trying to keep on playing it forever, that would be nifty. In terms of covers, Pink Floyd is not the only sacred beast they dare to touch. Here are covers of Spacemen 3's "Lord, Can You Hear Me?", Bob Dylan's "Blowin' In The Wind", The Smiths' "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me", Tom T. Hall's "...I Love", and Wire's "Heartbeat", for instance, as well as a swell one of The Bee Gees' "I Started A Joke" -my love for Mimi Parker's voice is immense. They are great even in moments when they're ripping somebody off (unintentionally, of course), the guitar riff on "Turning Over" sounds a lot like Metallica's "One", and the result is far from atrocious, despite the fact that Alan Sparhawk's opinion implies that appropriating that riff didn't do Low any good.

They indeed went through some harsh situations. Who could forget Alan showing his own state of mind publicly via a post on their message board? I thought it was a shame those kinds of problems were a contributing factor in leading Zak Sally to leave the band. Fortunately they are a tight unit now and things in general doesn't seem to be so grim anymore. From my point of view, "C'Mon" is lots better than "Drums And Guns", which at the time i didn't like too much especially because of the production; judging by the live recordings i got to hear the songs sounded much more up to my alley when performed live. I've come to appreciate "Drums And Guns" more than i initially did.

If you get the box-set, i think you'll be able to appreciate the musical interests they've had through the different stages of their career. In this sense, i heard comments and read reviews that would dismiss their incursion in electronic sound (refer for instance to the demo of "I Remember" and the alternate version of "Immune" with vocals by Mimi Parker; Alan would consider accurate to define this one as an Hospital People song with Mimi as guest vocalist), and if i were to agree that these types of tunes were somehow inferior to their other work, i still would rescue the value they have in providing some context to put things in perspective and end up realizing that "Drums And Guns", for instance, was simply the culmination of their own desires to explore the kind of sounds which are very present in that album. Just a reiteration of my idea that there is no material worthy of getting rid of in this collection as some other people has claimed. Also, have in mind that there are some easter eggs hidden both in the DVDs and on one of the CDs as well.


Anyway, Low have been added to the line-up of the All Tomorrow's Parties festival curated by Jeff Mangum:

oh, Low .. glad to see they're still around.
This band has been very important to me about 10 years ago or so.
are the recent albums any good? Compared to, say, Secret Name or Things we Lost in the Fire (which is, I guess, the last record of theirs that I own ... then I lost interest)

by the way ... hipster bebop ... I saw you mention you'd like that Lifetime of temporary relief 3CD box? I have it home and can give it away to you if you want. I have got it for free and barely listen to it anymore so if you want, i can send it to you just for postage and shipping costs. the only problem is, i left the cover out on balcony once and a nasty downpour hit it so the package is damaged by water pretty badly. but the CDs are okay. pm me if yr interested, as i don't come here as often as i used to anymore.

This is a really nice treat, in the sense that they played a really great version of "Hand So Small", which is included in their "Bombscare EP" split with Spring Heel Jack but I don't think there is any other live recording that includes a performance of this song. The rest is pretty nifty as well, including the interview.

Nice, thanks. There's also a Low session from 2007 at daytrotter. The most awesome things start to appear the moment i become torrent impaired, and there is a recording of Low's recent session at KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic, captured by Nibbler, currently available at dimeadozen, and also a DVD of their show at Primavera Festival in Spain a few months back. Two more new recordings have been uploaded to live music archive, too.

"A Song Of Praise" with participation by Alan Sparhawk will be premiered online in November. Here is a link to the teaser:

Jeroen van der Poel, the filmmaker, also has plans to do "something special" with Low when they visit The Netherlands in November. Konkurrent would be involved, but it all is only tentative at the moment since he doesn't have an official reply from the band yet. I wish i'd knew how to actually contact someone (or help him to) who might have the means to get things moving...
