I'm on board with this. Men hugging is all well and good, but what good is that going to do in wartime? And what's more, how are gay people to know which is which? Asif Matthew Kelly not being on the bus was enough, now you have men hugging. Out of interest, you ever see gay guys hugging? No. Because they have more respect for the rules.

Handshakes, yes. The full English, none of your fancy American/ continental handshakes, thankyou very much. Perhaps a light slap on the shoulder, but only if immediately followed by the question 'another pint is it?' Also, the slap is invalidated if the subsequent order is a lager or other girl's drink.

Eye contact is neccessary, because you know if they are acting shifty or nervous, then something is up. you can tell someone is shifty or nervous when they dart there eyes around, etc. I don't want any shifty pranksters shakin' my hand thats for damn sure.

I hate "groovy multiple phase" handshakes, because

a. They are amazingly hard to keep up with for someone as painfully white as I am

b. You never know which version someone is going to use.


I once shook Mike Watt's hand (this was 1989), and the handshake had about 8 different movements. I sorta kept up, and he was cool enough not to make fun of me. I thank him to this day for that.

I found in Ireland that it is entirely accepted that women will shake hands in a decent fashion. I'm all for that. Also, businessladies have the hang of it. Spot on, Irish ladies and businesswomen.
